It works on the basis of many parameters like the total number of students appearing in this exam previous years trends. It's not precise but it gives a rough indicative idea of the measures.
My confusion is increased with your response as 76 percentile was given with apx 105 marks in Jan exam
See percentile depends more on the total number of participants rather than on individual performance. There was a lesser number of students appearing for the exam in jan.
