I had researched almost all the books available in the market. Here are my findings:

  1. None of the books are strong in all the topics
  2. Some of the books are still based on subjective question pattern
  3. Some books are good in theory but not have enough practice questions. There are couple of books which have both theory and practice questions covered decently.
  4. You should always have three kinds of book:
    1. Reference Books: Not recommended for regular reading, only for topics when deeper understanding is required.
    2. Theory Books: Regular reading books to understand the theory and be able to cover the syllabus on time.
    3. Practice Books: Quality questions with large variety based on current JEE pattern

My Recommendations:

  • Just One Author Books: For Students who wants to follow just one author book to cover all their needs I would recommend following books
    • Maths: G Tewani Cengage Publications
    • Physics: DC Pandey (set of 5 books)
    • Chemistry: KS Verma Cengage Publications
  • Reference/Theory/Questions Separate Books:
    • Maths (Reference): None
    • Maths (Theory): NCERT
    • Maths (Questions): G Tewani Books and Comprehensive Mathematics By Tata McGraw Hill
    • Physics (Reference): Resnick, Halliday and Walker
    • Physics (Theory): HC Verma Volume-1 and Volume-2
    • Physics (Questions): DC Pandey (all 5 books) and BM Sharma Cengage Publication
    • Chemistry (Reference):
      • Physical: None
      • Inorganic: JD Lee
      • Organic: LG Wade
    • Chemistry (Theory): NCERT
    • Chemistry (Questions):
      • Physical: KS Verma
      • Inorganic: OP Tondon, KS Verma
      • Organic: KS Verma, RK Gupta
  • Must Have Complementary Books:
    • 14 years Solved papers (2003–2016) or a newer version from Arihant Publications
    • 38 years topicwise chapterwise solved papers (Maths: Amit M Agarwal, Physics: DC Pandey, Chemistry: Ranjeet Shahi)

There are a lot of others good books also but above are the ones that you should finish first and revisit again and again to strengthen all the topics.

Other Good Books are:

Maths (easier side): RD Sharma, SK Goyal

Maths (tougher side): A Das, ML Khanna, Amit Agarwal

Physics (easier side): MCQs By D Mukherji

Physics (tougher side): IE Irodov, P Gnadig

Chemistry: Numerical Chemistry-P Bahadur, RC Mukerjee , Peter Sykes Organic Chemistry

Dear Manav

Best book for JEE mains are the NCERT if you thoroughly go through the NCERT Book you can get a good score in JEE mains.

If you want a good reference book you can solve HC Verma and heledy resnik for Physics , SL LONEY, Balaji for maths and various theory books for chemistry such as Balaji which is written by the teachers of vibrant institute.

Hello Manav,
Don't trouble yourself with a huge collection of books for each subject. I'll give you a list.
For every section, I've provided a choice between two books. One hastheory and questions. The other has only questions. Choose according to need.
Physics:
Concepts of Physics(H.C. Verma)
Arihant Understanding Physics(D.C. Pandey) [in case you don't have good theory material. The syllabus is divided into 5 units, one book each, with detailed concepts and questions]

Arihant New Pattern Physics(D.C. Pandey) [question and solutions only]
Chemistry: (NCERT textbooks indispensable)
Physical
GRB Concepts of Physical Chemistry(P. Bahadur) [in case you don't have good theory material]
Problems in Physical Chemistry(N. Awasthi) [summary, question and solutions]
Organic
Mechanism in Organic Chemistry(Peter Sykes, Indian edition) [in case you don't have theory material]
Advanced Problems in Organic Chemistry(M.S. Chouhan) [question and solutions only]
Inorganic
NCERT Chemistry textbook.
Problems in Inorganic Chemistry(V.K. Jaiswal)
Mathematics:
Arihant Skills in Mathematics(Dr S.K. Goyal and Amit M Agarwal) [in case you don't have theory material. The syllabus is divided into 6 units, one book each, with detailed concepts and questions. Some extra stuff included too. Stick to JEE syllabus only]
Arihant New Pattern Mathematics(Amit M. Agarwal) [question and solution only]
Apart from these, you'll require to solve chapterwise problems from the past year actual JEE papers. For the purpose, preferArihant 36 Years question banks, as they have good solutions.
