After B.Tech. in ECE, you can study with M.Tech. in same stream . Because you have studied basics in B.Tech. & advance of that you will study in M.Tech.
If you are not interested in ECE then you should prepare according to your interest. Means:
If you love to study/teach, go for GATE and then M.Tech.
If you want to do IT Job, ask your seniors who are in Infosys/ Wipro/ TCS on how to crack IT interviews.
If you wish to be an entrepreneur, join a startup now.
So, all depends on you. Go with yourself, not with stream or field.
    All the Best.

Hello,
Every branch in engineering shares an equal importance. However nowadays  CSE/IT/ECE branches are mostly preferred due to increased placement opportunities in the it sector. So you can do btech with these branches.
