More or less both the institutes VNIT Nagpur as well as NIT Calicut have good infrastructure, faculty and placements. However I believe NIT Calicut has proved to be ahead of VNIT Nagpur in terms of Outlook, Research as well as Campus Culture.

Ideally you can choose any one of them, whichever is at vicinity of your hometown, if you are only targeting placements. Most of the top MnCs like IBM, Microsoft, Adobe, Intel, Amazon, GS and so on visit both the campuses each fall.

But if you have plans to go for research or pursue Masters or Doctoral degree from US or higher technical Institutes in India, I believe NIT Calicut will be a better choice will massively help you to enhance your research intellect.
