Hey student,

I hope you are doing good.

methyl group
It is because the methyl group has a positive inductive effect; this effect is due to the higher electronegativity of carbon than hydrogen, which attracts the electron from hydrogen and becomes slightly negative and push the electrons towards other groups.

I hope it helps.

Hello Student,

The Inductive Effect is an effect regarding the transmission of unequal sharing of the bonding electron through a chain of atoms in a molecule, leading to a permanent dipole in a bond. Now, you must know that the inductive effect is of two types.

Positive Inductive Effect ( + I effect )

Negative Inductive Effect ( - I effect )

Below, I am providing you the series for both the effects. You can yourself check the molecules as per their inductivity.

- I group :

NH3+>NO2 > CN >SO3H > CHO > CO >COOH> COCl >COOR >CONH2 > F>Cl>Br >I >OH >OR >NH2 >C6H5>H

+I group :

tert-alkyl > sec- alkyl >p-alkyl>CH3 >H

Hope this helps.
