Hi John,

I would like to clarify you the concept of placement first. I am taking into consideration that you are talking about final placements and not summer internships. So what happens, when the companies come in the campus or are called into the campus by the respective placement committee members, then a form is opened up and CVs are asked for shortlist. Some companies conduct a psychometric test to judge the person-job fit or whether the person will be culture fit for the company. Then based on several criteria, CVs of the suitable candidates are shortlisted and are called in for the next round which contains mostly Group Discussions and Personal Interviews which can go upto multiple times.

Now, to get into consulting firms, there is no specific specialisation that you can opt for. Firstly, the company has to be in your campus and then you have to apply. Consultancy is the job whereby a client has some problem in his/her organisation and he/she has asked for your valuable advice. The problem could pertaining to Human Resources, Marketing, Finance, Operations, Systems, General Management or Strategy. Deloitte, Accenture, Cognizant and several companies hire from these specialisations.

So, if you are getting into a management course, keep your points high, do some online courses, live projects and virtual internships and enrich your CV with valuable and key points because, it will be a software that will screen your CV and if it contains key points, then your chances of getting shortlisted for the company will increase.

I hope I have been able to solve your problem. Do write to us in case of further clarifications and we will be happy to help. All the best!!!

Hello,

Strategy and management consulting firms can suit generalists very well, but there’s no shortage of options out there for those who would rather specialize including the same strategy and management consulting firms, down to very small boutique consultants. Management consulting is one of the most sought-after skills in the business world. A specialized MBA in consulting will empower business students to enter a lucrative industry post-graduation, helping clients manage their companies more successfully.

Hope this helps, Good Luck.
