An MBA specialization depends upon your area of interest. People feel that they can work in any area provided they have enough salary. However, this is not true. A few years down the line, you would be frustrated if you do not like the job. Do not make a decision based on the money factor.

So go for your interest. And if you are confused about interest, do not worry. Firstly, talk go people working in different fields and after putting yourself in their place, think if you would like to do that job.

Or else, wait for your MBA to start. Once you study all the subjects, it will be very easy for you to choose a specialization in the first semester/ trimester itself.

Here are some general choices-

· If you take Finance, you may go into a wide range of roles like investment banking, corporate treasury, wealth management, asset management, equity research, corporate finance, treasury etc to name a few.

· If you want to contribute to making of a product or an idea, you may want to go into marketing which can give you roles as a marketing/sales/product manager looking after a particular area or a product as a whole.

· Operations is a field that you may consider if you like planning/optimisation of the supply chain/logistics/procurement etc.

· If you are looking to interacting with the employees, responsible for hiring/training and development, go for HR.

· If you are a Computer/ IT engineer, and want to remain in the field but not code per se, then you may go for an MBA in IT or Systems.

To show you are interested in a particular field, first of all, you should have the required knowledge. So study a lot and understand the basics really well.

So, I have just given you the criteria to think about for deciding your career. Make an informed choice without any pre-conceived notion or stress. Remember that you will do well in the long term, if you do what interests and excites you.
