With a score of 84 in jee main should I take any college or drop a year to get into IIT

See you really need to
mention your category
because it depends a lot on it.
But, if you are from the general category, it is really hard for you to get admission into the NITs or IIITs through JEE Mains.
You should try for some private colleges.
