Course Overview

Eligibility Criteria

The candidates must have knowledge about undergraduate-level mathematics and thermodynamics to be eligible for attending this course. 

To be eligible for the Defects in Crystalline Solids (Part-1) certificate, the candidate must appear for the certification examination at the end of the term and secure at least 30 out of the total 75 marks in the test. Besides that, the candidate must also complete all in-course assignments and secure at least 10 out of 25 as the average internal assessment score.

Application Details

  • Image force, Dislocation motion, Slip system, Peierl Nabarro stress, Critical resolved shear stress

  • Glide, climb and Cross-slip to create steps, Dislocation intersection

  • Strain and strain rate due to dislocation motion, Dislocation in FCC and BCC, Thompson's Tetrahedron

Evaluation process

The candidates will have to appear for an offline examination at the end of the course to become eligible for certification. The examination will entail an examination fee and will be taken offline in the presence of a proctor at a designated test centre. The candidate must secure at least 30 out of the total 75 marks in this examination to become qualified for receiving the course certificate.
