The Defects in Crystalline Solids (Part-1) programme by Swayam is a course that aims to give its candidates a broad understanding of the defects in materials and their function in determining the properties of the materials. The students will gain a thorough understanding of crystals and their structures, along with plastic deformation mechanisms.
Taught by Professor Shashank Shekhar from IIT Kanpur, the Defects in Crystalline Solids (Part-1) course is an undergraduate-level course under the Metallurgy and Material Science and Mining Engineering category. It is intended for first-year graduate students who have a prior idea about thermodynamics and undergraduate-level mathematics.
It will take approximately eight weeks to complete the Defects in Crystalline Solids (Part-1) programme. It is a 100% online course and the course material can be accessed for free upon enrolment. The course is replete with video lectures, specially prepared reading material that can be downloaded and printed by the candidate, and in-course tests and assignments.
