Course Overview

In the Analytics Edge online programme, candidates will learn how to use data analytics, and how it can transform a business or an industry. Candidates will learn about various analytical methods. These include linear and logistic regression, text analytics, clustering, trees, visualisation, and optimisation. Candidates will learn how to work with data and build models with the statistical software R.

Furthermore, the Analytics Edge course by edX, courtesy of MIT, follows the examples of Netflix, Twitter, IBM, Moneyball, e-Harmony, Watson, and the Framingham Heart Study, among others. Candidates will be instructed through short video lectures, usually between four to eight minutes each.

To evaluate their understanding of the material, candidates will be asked a “quick question” after each video lecture in the edX Analytics Edge programme. Using new examples and data sets, the teaching assistants will go over all the methods discussed. Candidates will also be given a homework assignment each week, wherein they will have to work in LibreOffice and R with various data sets. The final exam will also be similar to the homework assignments.
