Chengalpattu Medical College, established in 1965, is situated in Chengalpattu Tamil Nadu and is one of the best medical colleges in that region. This is a government-owned, affiliated college having approval from the NMC which offers all graduated medical programmes. Situated in a large 240 acre campus, the college has a total enrolment capacity of 1959 students and has 149 employees.

Chengalpattu Medical College offer a number of facilities for the students use in their academics and personal development. There are different accommodation facilities for male and female students to improve the spirit of secularism including hostels which have facilities that match the modern world. The boys’ hostel has got a library, Wifi, a TV hall, a well equipped gym among others. Likewise, the girls’ hostel consists of comfortable accommodation with the additional facility of a gym for them. The library of the college is stuffed with thousands of books and journals, magazines and newspapers, having separate sections for faculties and students. For students who wish to become doctors, on-campus facilities include health centre where first aid amenities are available that help students get real experience in medical field.

With regard to the variety of health care specialisation, there are various courses offered at the Chengalpattu Medical College. These include full-time undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma courses making a total of 29 courses. The annual intake of the flagship MBBS course is 100 students while other postgraduate courses such as MD & MS, contains strength ranging from 2 to 15. M.Ch in Plastic Surgery and Urology, and DM programmes in Neurology, Cardiology, and Neonatology such as these are also run in super-specialty department of the college. Also, it offers diploma courses which include Medical Laboratory Technology, Emergency Care Technicians, and Dialysis Technicians  with an intake range 20-100 students respectively.

Like most medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, the admission process at Chengalpattu Medical College is mainly centralised with admissions being the basis of national level examinations. While the MBBS programme is expected to be conducted through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG). For admissions to MD and MS courses, candidates are required to qualify the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test in Post Graduate (NEET-PG) and for super specialty courses such as M.Ch, DM courses candidates have to appear for NEET-SS.  The academic year is normally in line with that set for medical education in the country to coincide with admissions and examinations.

Chengalpattu Medical College, Chengalpattu Admission

Chengalpattu Medical College is one of the eminent government-run medical colleges in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu. It also offers a myriad of undergraduate, postgraduate, and super-specialty medical courses. Admissions are highly competitive and mainly based on national-level entrance tests in Chengalpattu Medical College.

The academic year is usually commended about the month August-September, while admissions are conducted from May-June. For UG courses, admissions are subject to the scoring from NEET-UG. For PG admissions of MD and MS courses, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET-PG) is held, while the NEET-SS, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Super Specialty is required to be cleared for admission into super-specialties such as M.Ch and DM.

For undergraduate courses, the minimum eligibility is completion of 10+2, by a recognized board, with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as compulsory subjects. Generally, 50% aggregate in the qualifying examination is required. For postgraduate candidates, a prerequisite would be the completion of their MBBS degree from any recognized University.

Application Process

The application process for Chengalpattu Medical College is different for different fields:

MBBS:

1. Register and appear in NEET-UG examination.
2. Qualify NEET-UG with required cut-off marks.
3. Apply for Tamil Nadu state counseling (for state quota seats) or participate in the All India Quota counseling.
4. During counseling, select Chengalpattu Medical College and prefer course.

MD/MS:

Degree wise Admission Process

MBBS - Admission for the MBBS course in Chengalpattu Medical College is as per the NEET-UG examination. This college has an annual intake of 100 students in the MBBS program. NEET-UG eligibility demands completion of 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

MD/MS - Chengalpattu Medical College has 14 MD and 4 MS Programs with 83 seats in total available. Registration is based on the scores obtained in NEET-PG with a left-out counseling process. Eligibility after completion of MBBS within India is a requirement. Some of the courses that attract many applicants are MD General Medicine-10 seats, MS General Surgery-15 seats, and MD Anaesthesiology-12 seats.

M.Ch- Chengalpattu Medical College offers 2 M.Ch Courses-Plastic Surgery and Urology, Agriculture will be admitted for 6 seats set aside for the M.Ch program. Admissions are held as per the NEET-SS-qualified candidates who have completed their MS or MD courses in relevant specializations are permitted to apply.

DM- The college, for its DM courses, offers the following specializations- Neurology, Cardiology, and Neonatology, for which 12 seats are available. NEET-SS is the entrance examination that will be conducted for these courses. MD holders in the related field are eligible for admission to these Super-Specialty courses.

B.Sc.-The program is with 20 seats in Radiology and Imaging Technology. Admission is based on the rules of the affiliated university.

Diploma Courses-The college offers Diploma Courses in Medical Laboratory Technology (100 seats), Dialysis Technician (20 seats), and Emergency Care Technician (20 seats). The admissions are conducted as per the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai committee guidelines.

Documents generally required for admission include:

  • NEET score card (for MBBS, MD/MS, M.Ch/DM programs)
  • 10th and 12th certificates
  • Degree certificates and mark sheets (for PG and super-specialty programs)
