The fore runner institution to the present College of Fisheries, Mangalore is as old as 1969 which is one of the most prestigious institution involved in the field of fisheries education and research. This constituent college is located in Yekkur Kankanady Mangalore Karnataka and has a total area of 74.69 acres of campus region. Recognised by the Indian Council for Agricultural Research, it provides a wide field of specialization of its programmes in fisheries science. This college has total enrolment capacity of 237 students and faculty strength of 26; therefore, it offers concentrated learning opportunities. 

Today College of Fisheries, Mangalore has abundant infrastructural facility to support its academic and research programmes. This Fisheries Library which is adjudged one of the best Fisheries Libraries in the country today has over 14000 books, 2700 technical reports and gets 55 journals out of which 20 are international. The quite well equipped computer laboratory that contains 25 computers is the essential anymore of Information Technology for students and the staff. The college also has equally well-equipped departmental laboratories that are important in skills practice and research in the area of fisheries science. In the area of accommodation the institution provides this with separately for male and female; these hostels are fully furnished and equipped with facilities which include Wi/sri for internet connection, CCTV, electricity supply round the clock and water supply also is round the clock. There is also a gym, sports courts, a cafeteria and a health facility with first aid facilities to cater for every need of students in their development.

Facilitating Fisheries Education, The College of Fisheries, Mangalore provides a number of courses in accordance with different level of education in fisheries. It offers 13 courses and include full-time undergraduate programme, postgraduate programme and doctorate. The flagship programme is the Bachelor of Fishery Science (B.F.Sc) and the ministry of education and sports has approved this college to admit forty two students.

The admission procedures adopted at the College of Fisheries Mangalore are also competitive based on merit list. Admission requirements for the B.F.Sc programme are strictly on merit basis without compromise on the required admission requirements. As in the case of M.Sc., the admission to Ph.D. programme shall also involve filling of an online form to be forwarded to the Registrar, KVAFSU, Bidar.

College of Fisheries, Mangalore Admission

College of Fisheries, Mangalore is the elite place of reference for studies and research in fisheries. This institution is one of the colleges recognized by the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) in offering different programs in fisheries science. The admission process in College of Fisheries, Mangalore is highly competitive and the candidates are selected merit-based for various programs.

For undergraduates, merit in the qualifying examination (10+2 or equivalent) is the criterion for admission into the college. Admission into the flagship program of Bachelor of Fishery Science (B.F.Sc) is limited to just 42 students, therefore very competitive. For admission into M.Sc and Ph.D programs, the candidates are screened through an entrance examination and an interview.

Application Process

The process of application for College of Fisheries, Mangalore is different in various levels of the program:

For B.F.Sc Program:

1. Application forms can be downloaded from the college website or from the admissions office.

2. Fill up the application form with correct personal and academic details.

3. Attach all required documents such as:

  • 10+2 or equivalent marksheets
  • Transfer certificate
  • Character certificate
  • Caste certificate if any
  • Passport-sized photographs

4. Submit completed application form with all the required documents within the defined time.

5. Pay application fee as set by the college.

For M.F.Sc Programs:

1. Visit the KVAFSU Bidar website and download the application form or obtain forms from the Registrar's office.

2. Fill up the application form completely.

3. Attach the following documents:

  • Bachelors degree certificate and mark sheets.
  • OGPA certificate.
  • Caste certificate, if applicable.

4. Application must be submitted to the Registrar, KVAFSU, Bidar, before the last date mentioned in the notification.

5. Pay the application fee prescribed.

6. Preparation for the written test and counseling process.

For Ph.D Programs:

1. Fill out the application form obtained from the KVAFSU, Bidar website or from the Registrar's office.

2. Fill out the application in full and accurately.

3. Attach the following:

  • Master's degree certificate and mark sheets
  • OGPA certificate
  • Research proposal
  • Publications, if available

4. Submit completely filled application to Registrar, KVAFSU, Bidar as per the notification.

5. Apply the requisite application fee.

6. Be aware for any other selection tests as prescribed by the university.

Degree wise Admission Process

B.F.Sc (Bachelor of Fishery Science):

The B.F.Sc program is the flagship undergraduate course in the College of Fisheries, Mangalore. Admission into the course is purely dependent on merit. Candidates must have passed the necessary subjects in their 10+2 or equivalent examination. The selection process is based on the marks obtained by the candidates in the qualifying examination and the allocation of seats is based on the merit list prepared by the college.

M.F.Sc (Master of Fishery Science):

M.F.Sc has several specializations including but not restricted to: Aquatic Environment Management, Fisheries Microbiology, Fisheries Engineering and Technology, Fish Processing Technology, and Fisheries Resources and Management. 

The procedure of admissions for all M.F.Sc programs is as follows:

1. Application must be submitted to the Registrar, KVAFSU, Bidar, on the prescribed form according to the notification of the university.
2. Eligible candidates will have to appear for a written examination.
3. Eligible candidates short-listed will be called for counseling at their own expense to a place and time as specified by the university.

Ph.D Programs:

The College of Fisheries, Mangalore will be running doctoral programs in several specializations like Fisheries Environment and Ecology, Fishery Microbiology, Fish Processing Technology, Fishery Resources and Management, and Aquaculture. 

The admission procedure in Ph.D programs includes:

1. Submission of an application to the Registrar, KVAFSU, Bidar, using the prescribed form as per the university's notification.
2. The university may require candidates to go through an additional selection process which could consist of written tests and interviews.
