Dayanand Ayurvedic College Hospital and Pharmacy established at Jalandhar city, Punjab have glorious past which was established in 1898. This affiliated college offers a combination of knowledge of traditional system of Indian medicine and modern medical science. The college is located on a limited piece of about 5 acres of property, and the total enrolment capacity of the college is 341 students that are taught by 36 committed faculty members. The institution provides three focused programmes through two degree programmes for both undergraduate and postgraduate level of study in Ayurveda.
They include a fitness centre, a library, a bookstore, cafeterias, housing accommodations, computer and science laboratories, music and art studios, and athletic fields. The library distinguished itself from others as the source of valuable information, containing more than 12,130 books on Ayurveda and modern medicine. This includes some of the ancient and most popular texts on various branches of Ayurvedic science, which students can recommend for their use. The institution also has its own arrangement of hostels as separate hostels for boys and girls are available to ensure students are protected while they are provided with comfortable accommodation. There are two hostels one for boys that can lodge forty two student and the other for girls with a capacity of one hundred and forty student, and both are situated in an enviable environment with conversion facilities. To promote health among student and staff, the college offer the amenities of a health centre and first aid services. Also, the campus comprises of information technology facilities, laboratories, a cafeteria, sports complex, and an event and seminar hall in the form of an auditorium fostering education.
Academic wise, it offers three full time courses at Dayanand Ayurvedic College Hospital and Pharmacy. The main course offered is the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) for which intakes have been approved to sixty students. At the postgraduate level, the college offers two specialised programmes: The intake for the courses namely MD Panchkarma and MD Dravyaguna are 5 students each. These courses are intended to provide trained Ayurveda doctors and scholars to work for the development of this ancient medical science.
The admission criteria also follow those of Guru Ravidas Ayurved University Punjab, Hoshiarpur of which Dayanand Ayurvedic College Hospital and Pharmacy is a part of. The BAMS programme it self has an admission criteria based on the NEET that is National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for medical students in India. Likewise, the Admissions of postgraduate programmes (MD Panchkarma and MD Dravyaguna) are offered through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post Graduate (NEET PG). Candidates should have 10+2 with the respective subjects and must pass the NEET to get admission. Selection and admission process is done as per the instruction of Guru Ravidas Ayurved University Punjab, Hoshiarpur.
MD Panchkarma
The college provides 5 seats for the MD Panchkarma course. This postgraduate course is offered based on the candidate's scores in the NEET PG examination. The candidate should have completed their BAMS course from a reputed university to be eligible for this course.
MD Dravyaguna:
Just like MD Panchkarma, the MD Dravyaguna course also takes an admission of 5 seats. The admission is done on the basis of NEET PG scores. Students having a BAMS degree can apply for this specialized postgraduate course in Ayurvedic pharmacology
