Government College for Women Chintamani (GCWChintamani) was founded in the year 2000 situated at Chikkaballapur, Karnataka. This affiliated college which spans only 1.25 acres of land is one of the women’s college that offers a quality education. It has an enrolment of 2,030 students and a faculty of 26 members, the college of Commerce and Management provides 18 courses in the seven-degree programmes. It was further accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), which is a testimony to fact that the college emphasises on the quality of its education. GCW Chintamani is notable for taking on Science, Arts and Commerce Streams and aims at fulfilling the dreams of the young women for quality education in particular region.

Government College for Women has a set of facilities that improve learning environment and the development of the students. It serves as an extensive academic library with a stock of 32, 000 books, 15 journals and educational DVDs. This also offers study resources for competitor examinations, and has a book repository for the needy students. While the sports area is very limited with the size of only 0.20 acre, there are outdoor games like throw-ball, ball badminton and volleyball while indoors, students can play carrom and chess. Based on this, the college’s name of GCW Chintamani has modern laboratory equipped with IT tools to offer taste of contemporary technology to the students. The college also has very modern practical laboratories, an open-air hall that can seat 2,000 students for cultural shows, and a girls’ hostel for students from out-stations. Other facilities are health facility, an emergency and first aid facility, a cafeteria, and Internet for the entire campus.

GCW Chintamani consists of all types of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across various disciplines. The college offers 18 programmes which includes 14 full time undergraduate programmes and 4 post graduate programmes. The undergraduate programmes include Science (B.Sc), Commerce (B.Com), Business Administration (BBA) and Arts (BA). These include M.Com, MA in History and Kannada and M.Sc in Chemistry. But it is common practice that most government colleges in Karnataka admit students based on the marks acquired in the qualifying examination that is 10+2 equivalent for under graduate programmes. For programs such as BBA also, students are admitted based on scores in the 10+2 examination. This program is open to candidates from any stream, including Science, Commerce, or Arts.

BA at GCWChintamani offers five specializations; they include History Economics Political Science, History Economics Sociology, History Economics Optional Kannada, History Political Science Optional English, and Economics Geography Tourism. Admission would be based on 10+2 marks, while the subjects studied would also be kept into consideration.

For entry into the Master of Commerce program, candidates must possess a B.Com or equivalent degree. Admission is normally based on the exam score of the chosen undergraduate degree.
