Jhargram Government Medical College and Hospital (JGMCH) was set up only in the year 2022. This state funded college is situated in the Jhargram district and aims to impart good medical knowledge and health facilities. Being an affiliated college, JGMCH functions as a part of a parent university and has to meet the standard set by the university system. The college is recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for its unceasing efforts in providing standard education to the students.
Jhargram Government Medical College and Hospital library makes up an important college facility as it stocks medical literature and research papers for students. For the purpose of improving practical knowledge The institution has provided departmental laboratories through which a student will undertake practice in the different fields of medical specialties.
At the moment, JGMCH teaches only one programme, and it is the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). This is a full time course that takes six years to complete in order to offer extensive training in the medical sciences. The quota that the college has received for the MBBS stream is 100 seats which implies the colleges capability to produce a large number of medical professionals annually. However, only the aggregate of the number of students has been provided, but if the college currently occupies these physical facilities it must have in its team a faculty of 34 members – enough to guarantee an optimal student to teacher ratio for mentoring.
Admission process of JGMCH is as per the norms laid under the Medical Council of India concerning the admission criteria of the medical colleges and Universities in India. For the candidates willing to take admission to the first government recognised MBBS college, NEET is the only entrance test they need to qualify.
