About Karuna Medical College, Palakkad

Karuna Medical College as a self financed medical college affiliated to Kerala University of Health Sciences came into existence in 2006 at Vilayodi, Chittur – Palakkad, Kerala. This co-educational institute has approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) and delivers medical courses. In addition to the student strength of 500 acres and a faculty of 87, Karuna Medical College offers its students an intense learning experience to become medical practitioners.

An extraordinary array of resources contributes to the college’s student services with elaborate services being accessible to students. The campus includes male and female hostels; this facility provides single and double bed room’s accommodation well secured and free from noise. A number of appropriately equipped health centres with first aid established guarantees the health of students. The library of the college is a dominating two storied handsome building measuring 2000 square meters for two section readings the seating capacity is 350 for general reading, 50 for journal reading, 50 for staff and 50 for personal book reading. It also contains a vast array of literature of medical and allied subjects. For this purpose, exercises for overall body fitness, a well-equipped gymnasium for students has been provided to the students. There are also sports facilities and faculty through a qualified physical director, football ground, cricket ground, volleyball ground, indoor facilities for table tennis, chess, carom, etc.

There are in total, 7 courses offered by Karuna Medical College which are all full time courses. The total approved intake of the first MBBS programme is 100, while for the different specialised MD programmes foreseen, the intakes vary between 1 and 2.

Karuna Medical College mostly follows the national level entrance examination for the admission of the students. For the MBBS programme, admission is taken during university level entrance exams called the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG). Likewise, entry into postgraduate MD courses has been done based on the scores in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post Graduate or NEET-PG. These tests make it possible to provide more objective and even competitive selection of the candidates for the medical schools. In this regard, the college admits students who have passed these tests to and in conformity with the regulation of the National Medical Commission.

Degree wise Admission Process

MBBS: The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) course of Karuna Medical College has an approved seat intake of 100. MBBS course admission will only be on the basis of the performance of the candidate in the NEET-UG examination. Eligibility is also subject to passing 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects and possessing the minimum qualifying percentile of NEET-UG as laid down by NMC.

MD Courses: Karuna Medical College provides a number of MD (Doctor of Medicine) courses, such as:

  • MD Pathology (2 seats)
  • MD Pharmacology (2 seats)
