About Kuppuswami Sastri Research Institute, Chennai

Kuppuswami Sastri Research Institute in Chennai was set up in the year of 1945 to take up Sanskrit and Indological research studies. Situated in the cosmopolitan area of Mylapore, Chennai this affiliated college has been a hallmark of traditional learning for over seven decades. The institute offers two specialised courses: M.Phil and Ph.D in Sanskrit is designed for those scholars who are eager to explore this ancient language and monumental cultural treasures connected with it. Currently the faculty of the institute is quite small with only 3 members which gives the institute faculty and students opportunity to give individual attention to every student that joins the institute.

Kuppuswami Sastri Research Institute boasts of a large library which is indeed treasure chest for the researchers and learners. Current estimate the library has collection of around 60000 books in different fields like Dance and Music, Epigraphy, Ethics, Law, Language and Literature, Philosophy, and Ayurveda.  Besides its fine collection of books, the institute has applied modern practices of education by offering a Computer Lab facility to students and teach them how to use books jointly with computers and other latest technologies.

Kuppuswami Sastri Research Institute offers two full-time courses: , offering M.Phil programme with the duration of one year and Ph.D programme with a duration of six years respectively, both in Sanskrit. These programmes are intended for the promotion of higher learning and research and in the area of Sanskrit literature.

 Research into Sanskrit and Indology Studies is one of the few fields of study enhanced by research institutes in South India. The Kuppuswami Sastri Research Institute, one of the most sought-after institutions, had its inception in 1945, and even now, it continues to leave a mark on traditional learning for over seventy years. The institute's admission process selects people who have a good back ground in Sanskrit and have a serious interest in research. KSRI exclusively offers advanced studies at Masters level M.Phil. and Ph.D. courses. Admission to the programs is in order to attract scholars interested in immersing in this vocabulary thousands of years old and cultural monuments. KSRI ,having three members, gives individual attention to every student making selection quite competitive and very thorough.

Eligibility and admission into the programs are stringent and indicative of friction, as these are indeed high-level study modules being conducted thus:

  1. M.Phil in Sanskrit: Minimum of 55% or its equivalent grade in a Master's degree in Sanskrit or any related discipline awarded by a recognized university is required to secure admission.
  2. Ph.D. in Sanskrit: Candidates should either have an M.Phil degree in Sanskrit or a related discipline or a Master's degree with excellent credentials and sound research abilities.

Application Process
