Mata Gurdev Kaur Memorial Shahi Sports College of Physical Education, Ludhiana, was established in the year 2005 is an affiliated college situated in Punjab. Located over an area of acres 8, the institute recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and covering specialised programmes in physical education. The college has a teaching faculty of twenty members of staffs and is a co-educational institution. Established to emphasise on sports & physical education, the institute provides three full time courses such as B.P.Ed, B.P.E, and D.P.Ed, to the students dreaming for the career in the sports & physical Education.
There are many facilities at Mata Gurdev Kaur Memorial Shahi Sports College of Physical Education so as the students get all the infrastructure needed for academics and games. The library at present possesses more than four thousand seven hundred books, reference, new products’ subscribed newspapers and professional magazines are also available. The institute, also to accommodate the practical exposures, contains laboratories like Anatomy & Physiology Lab, Psychology Lab, Medicine Lab, Physiotherapy Lab etc. The college boasts of a multi-station gym with separate facilities for boys and girls as well as scores of sports items for different games and athletic activities. The campus boasts of an administration block, a first aid health centre, an assembly/auditorium and a students/staffs canteen. On the needs of accommodation, the college has hostel facilities for both male and female students and therefore adequately addressing the needs of the students who prefer to be housed within the compound of the college.
Shahi Sports College of Physical Education Mata Gurdev Kaur Memorial provides entire three postgraduate and undergraduate courses in Physical Education. They include D.P.Ed (Diploma in Physical Education for two years), B.P.Ed (Bachelor or Physical Education for three /two years) and B.P.E (Bachelor of Physical Education for three years). The B.P.Ed course has the approval of 100 seats for intake and the intake capacity for D.P.Ed is 100 seats also. These are programmes that have been developed with a view of offering education in physical education and in sports sciences in order to produce personnel with skills in teaching, coaching and administration of sports.
The criteria of admission in Mata Gurdev Kaur Memorial Shahi Sports College of Physical Education is aimed at giving admission to the students with inclination towards physical educations and sports. For all the courses BPEd, BPE and D.P.Ed, the candidates have to pass the Standard Efficiency Test known as the AAHPER test on the admission time. This test determines the applicants physical performance and proficiency in physical skills. The merit list for admissions is made as per the norms of Panjab University, Chandigarh, the Punjab Government Regular and Self Financing, and as per the norms of NCTE.
