About PSM College of Dental Sciences and Research, Akkikavu

The PSM College of Dental Sciences and Research was established in 2007 in Akkikavu, Kerala, as an affiliated college. This is a recognised university offered by the Dental Council of India (DCI), which focuses on dental education specialised programmes. The college currently enrols 489 students, while the members of the faculty total over one hundred and twenty-one, which suffices to create quite a favourable setting for future dentists. The institute currently has 7 programmes offered at 2 degrees, BDS and MDS, with the BDS being its flagship programme. Notably, the college boasts a diverse student body with an 85:A/15:1 undergraduate to postgraduate student ratio and a 17:83 male to female student ratio.

PSM College of Dental Sciences and Research is blessed with modern infrastructure for the respect, support, and development of the students. These are hostels for students of both genders, where there is adequate accommodation with provision for recreational facilities and a resident warden. With adequate first aid stations, the health centre is capable of providing solutions to the health challenges students might encounter, and a resourceful library meets students’ learning needs. A modern gym and sports complex for indoor and outdoor activities and an auditorium that may be used for events and seminars are also present on the campus. With regard to technology, the college is well-equipped to match the fast-growing IT developments, as it has functional information technology. The college provides a cafeteria and snack bar to help students and guests keep hungry, which adds to the campus activity.

There is one undergraduate course and six postgraduate courses available at PSM College of Dental Sciences and Research, for a total of 7 courses. Jain University BDS programme has an intake of 100 seats, and MDS specialisations have a total of 15 seats. All the courses are day programmes and this is achieved in order to facilitate intensive study. The procedure for enrolling in the PSM College of Dental Sciences and Research is educational standard-based and systemised. PSM College of Dental Sciences and Research, Akkikavu, is a premier dental institution in the state of Kerala, India. The college offers both undergraduate (BDS) and postgraduate (MDS) degree programs in dental sciences. Admission at PSM College aims to select the best-qualified, and motivated students for the dental degree program. Admission is offered based on merit and the merit list is drawn from the national entrance test scores and previous academic records of the students.

Undergraduate admissions are based on the scores obtained in NEET-UG. The application process for NEET-UG normally starts off in February and the examination is held in May. In the case of postgraduate admissions, the NMAT for MDS has to be scored well by the candidate to be considered for the courses. The NEET-MDS application generally opens in February and the examination takes place in March.

For BDS eligibility, the general requirement is that they must have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as their subjects. For the MDS programs, it requires candidates who have accomplished a BDS from an institution of repute. The college offers 100 seats for the BDS program and 15 more are distributed to different MDS specializations.

Application Process

The application process at PSM College of Dental Sciences and Research depends upon the program:

For the BDS Program:

  • NEET-UG examination as conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

  • The NEET-UG application process typically begins in February, while examinations take place in May.

  • Once the results of the NEET-UG examination are declared, candidates who are eligible can apply to PSM College of Dental Sciences through the centralized admission process followed by state authorities.

  • They are selected by the preparation of merit list from NEET-UG Scores and qualifying examination marks.

  • Shortlisted candidates are informed about coming for document verification and admission.

For MDS Programs:

  • NEET-MDS examination as conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE).

  • The NEET-MDS application process usually starts in February and the exam is held in the month of March.

  • Following the results of the NEET-MDS examination, qualified candidates can apply to PSM College for the specialization of their choice.

  • For the purpose of admission, selection would only be based on a merit basis determined by marks received in the NEET-MDS examination.

  • The candidates, who are shortlisted, will be called for counseling and for document verification and admission.

Program-wise Admission Process for BDS

Admittance to PSM College for Dental Sciences and Research offers 100 available seats for the BDS program. Those seeking admission to this BDS program will have merit list prepared from the scores obtained in the qualifying examination (10+2) as well as NEET-UG scores. 

Master of Dental Surgery

The school gives admission in six different areas with a total of 15 seats for MDS trainings. The admission in all MDS programs is strictly based on merit in the entrance tests conducted through NEET-MDS. The specializations available are:

  • MDS Oral Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Microbiology (3 seats)

  • MDS Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics (3 seats)

  • MDS Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics (3 seats)

  • MDS Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry (2 seats)

  • MDS Periodontology (2 seats)
