basically, the two papers have many things in common so yes you are right the preparation if NATA will compensate for the preparation for the jee main paper 2. they do share the same syllabus Jee main is conducted in pen and paper mode only NATA enables you for admission in five years architecture course in any of the top architecture college of india with the likes of the top IITs.

Great to hear that you are getting more than 270 but rank varies according to your category.But At such marks, you will succeed to get low IIT with a great branch if you are of general category.

If you get a good rank in JEE Main paper II you can take admission in NITs. 

If you want to take admission in IITs then you have to appear for JEE Main paper 1 then you have to qualify JEE Advanced exam to appear for AAT exam for architecture.

To get admission in NIT/GFTI, you will have to clear Jee Main paper 2 exam and when you get decent rank then you will have to attend the counseling and this way you can get admission there as this is the basic criteria to get entry in B.Arch program and apart from it, NATA exam is also there as many colleges/universities accept its score to fill seats in B.Arch course.
