The Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedics, otherwise known as SGITO, was founded in 1984 and is situated in Bangalore, Karnataka. An affiliated college with NMC and INC, this college is a Clinical trauma and Orthopedic College. It aims to deliver significant improvement for healthcare practice via 7 courses in 3 degrees level. The total number of faculties at the institute is 29 dedicated health care professionals and the institute offers quality education in different health care disciplines. The boys and girls or mixed learning institution admits students of both sexes from all parts of the community.

The institute thus has a host of instrumentalities to ensure that all these programmes receive adequate support. The core of SGITO’s infrastructure consists of a state-of-the-art hospital with six ambulances equipped with transport ventilators to meet any emergency response necessity promptly. The college library provides the much-needed knowledge resource centre for students, while the departmental laboratories gives the practical experience study. For sports and games, social and cultural programs, theatre and drama, and academic shows and programs, SGITO has a spacious auditorium. The institute has also placed humanity first by providing a different hostel for boys as well as girls. For this reason, SGITO has quality IT facilities in line with the current technological developments to produce health care citizens for the digital era.

With the full-time courses, SGITO provides a wide range of courses for medical education needs. institute currently offers undergraduate-level nursing and Physiotherapy and other paramedical courses, including Medical Imaging Technology, Operation Theatre Technology , Anesthesia technology, etc. For post graduate courses, SGITO has the option of offering a masters of science in orthopaedics. The total approved intake for the whole courses is 220 seats, which will enhance the opportunity for the would-be healthcare professionals. Unfortunately, the enrollment size for the latest year is unknown but the institute continues to emit graduates into the healthcare sector.

The admission process in SGITO may differ according the programme. For the courses like B.Sc. Medical Imaging Technology, B.Sc. Operation Theatre Technology, and B.Sc. Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopedic (SGITO), Bangalore, was considered inorganically oriented trauma and orthopaedic care-related institutes that have now risen to the levels of leading institutes in all fields offering undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses in health care. SGITO's admission seizing system intends to accept able candidates among the 7 courses in 3 degree levels. The admission cycle at SGITO normally takes along the academic calendar that generally opens in the August-September period. However, some specific dates may differ regarding different programs. The selection modes differ from course to course, including merit-based admission, interviews, and entrance examinations.

Eligibility criteria for under graduation programs include 10+2 from a recognized board with the required subjects. To be eligible for postgraduate programs, candidates would need to qualify with their bachelor's degree in the appropriate discipline from a recognized university. For the MS Orthopaedics program, students are admitted to the institute based on their NEET PG scores. The affiliations of the institute with the National Medical Commission (NMC) and Indian Nursing Council (INC) lend credence to the quality of medical education.

Application Process

1. For B.Sc in Nursing, BPT, B.Sc in Medical Imaging Technology, B.Sc in Operation Theatre Technology, B.Sc in Anaesthesia Technology, and B.Sc in Medical Laboratory Technology:

  1. The application form needs to be availed from the institute's official website or collected in person from the admission office.
  2. Completely fill in this form with all the accurate personal and academic details.
  3. The application package should include all essential and relevant documents like all relevant academic certificates, mark sheets, etc.
  4. Submit this completed application with all attached documents to the institute on or before the set deadline. 
  5. For programs that require interviewing, the institute will inform shortlisted contenders of their interview schedule.
  6. Attend the interview (if any) being conducted by the selection committee of the institute.

2. For MS Orthopaedics:

  1. Register and appear for NEET PG exam. 
  2. Apply for admission to SGITO through centralized counseling for medical postgraduate admissions.
  3. If selected, comply with the counselling process, along with document verification.
  4. Complete other admission formalities at SGITO, should a seat be allotted.

The following documents are mostly required for admission:

  • 10th and 12th mark sheets along with certificates
  • Undergraduate degree certificate and mark sheets (for postgraduate programs)
  • NEET PG score card;
  • Valid ID proof;
  • Latest passport-size photographs;
  • Caste certificate (if applicable);
  • Any other certificates or documents specified by the institute.

Admission Process Degree wise

B.Sc Nursing: SGITO has B.Sc Nursing program with a sanctioned intake of 60 seats. While no special admission details are provided, students are generally required to have completed their 10+2 in Science and met the admission criteria fixed by the Indian Nursing Council.

BPT (Bachelor of Physiotherapy): This BPT program has sanctioned intake of 40 students. The merit-based selection will be available through government counseling. 10+2 with science subjects and fulfilling eligibility criteria defined by regulatory bodies are needed for this course.

B.Sc Medical Imaging Technology: It is the approved intake for the B.Sc Medical Imaging Technology program, which comes to an authorized total capacity of 20. The selection process is purely performance-based to be conducted in the interview carried out by the institute's selection committee members.

B.Sc Operation Theatre Technology: This course has an approved intake of 20 and admission to this course is based on performance of the candidates in the interview conducted by the selection committee of the institute.

MS Orthopaedics: The total intake given to MS Orthopaedics of SGITO is 10 seats. The admission is granted depending upon the NEET PG score. Candidates must achieve the qualification for graduation from an MBBS degree and also fulfill other eligibility requirements stipulated by the National Medical Commission.

B.Sc Anesthesia Technology: This course has an approved intake of 10 seats. The selection is done solely on the performance of the candidates in the interview conducted by selection committee members of the institute.

B.Sc Medical Laboratory Technology: The program is for 10 students, with admissions for the same determined according to performance by interview taken by the selection committee of the institute.
