About Saveetha Dental College, Chennai

Saveetha Dental College for Dental Surgery was established in 1988 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and is one of the constituent colleges. Recognised by Dental Council of India, this institution is co-educational which is doing a promising business in the field of dental education. There are total 660 students in the college including 513 at undergraduate level and 147 post graduate students thus diversifying it’s student population. It is apparent that a greater number of female students enrol in the university; for UG students 68% were female while the PG students were 71%. The college provides 10 programs in two programs to focus at different dental disciplines. Saveetha Dental College has 466 faculty members to teach student, which maintains a good student teacher ratio, for imparting quality education in dental sciences.

It is important for every college to boast about modern structures and this one in particular does. The library covers approximately 11000 square feet and stocked with books more than 6500 and it includes number of National & International Journals. It has OPAC-compliant system; also a access to on line portal like Wiley & Science Direct. The campus is very technological and was recently the pioneer to use iPads in the Dental Hospital Management System. There are efficient laboratories which learners use, one of which is the 10,000 sq. ft. animal house fully furnished. The college also has the privilege of having three major operating theatre with about 550 surgeries performed each year. To enhance the comfort of students, the institution has offer luxury air-conditioned hostels fitted with the accommodation of five hundred students with amenities such as fridges, washing machines included.

Saveetha Dental College provide various programs in the field of dentistry. Currently the institute offers one undergraduate programme BDS and nine Postgraduate programmes Masters of Dental Surgery (MDS) in the following fields.

The goal of these programs is to aide learners in attaining productive knowledge in the dental sciences to enable students secure rewarding careers. Saveetha Dental College aims to accept students through national level entrance exams for their admissions. For BDS programme, the candidate has to clear the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Under Graduate (NEET UG) only. Also like MDS, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for MDS (NEET MDS) is done for all the MDS Courses.

Saveetha Dental College, Chennai, and it is now a glowring institution for excellence in dental education. It offers a variety of undertakings, that is, undergraduate (BDS ) and postgraduate (MDS ) degree programs in all dental specialties. Admission procedures at Saveetha Dental College are designed to select the most qualified candidates thorough national-level entrance examination. Saveetha Dental College considers undergraduate admission on the basis of the NEET-UG scores while postgraduate admissions depend on the NEET MDS. Such common standard tests ensure fair and competitive admissions among prospects for the dental profession. Saveetha Dental College usually opens its session in August-September. 

With a few minor changes to the admission date, which varies from year to year, the pattern generally follows that of the NEET-UG and NEET MDS. Next year, NEET MDS will be conducted on January 30, 2025. Eligibility criterion for BDS admission entails completion with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in an approved 10+2 level or equivalent course.   2. The qualifying score for admission at NEET MDS is cut off or above.
  3. Register for the counseling process as directed by the Dental Council of India or the respective state's counseling authority.
  4. Select Saveetha Dental College and corresponding specialty during counseling.
  5. Reporting to the college for the admission process, including document verification and fee payment.

Degree wise Admission Process

BDS- NEET-UG score selection entirely creates the element of admission into 5 years BDS of Saveetha Dental College, which can accommodate 100 seats. Candidates will have to qualify in NEET-UG and then follow the counseling process for seat allocation.

Master of Dental Surgery (MDS): MDS of Saveetha Dental College follows a curriculum of 3 years with MDS courses in nine specials. Admission to these nine MDS courses is based on NEET MDS. Admission specialties and their nests are as follows:

  2. MDS Oral surgery: 7 seats
  3. MDS Oral Pathology: 5 seats
  4. MDS Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics: 8 seats
  5. MDS Orthodontics and Dento-Facial Orthopedics: 7 seats
  6. MDS Prosthodontics: 6 seats
  7. MDS Oral medicine: 5 seats
  8. MDS Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry: 5 seats
  9. MDS Public Health Dentistry: 3 seats

Once a candidate qualifies NEET MDS, the counseling process must be undertaken for accessing admission to those courses.
