School of Design Media and Intercreative Arts (SDMCA) is a part of the Jain University situated in Bangalore, Karnataka. Established in the young and active JGI Knowledge Campus, this instituting shares the vision and mission of developing creative minds and ideas in the areas of design and media. SDMCA provided a complete list of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses with 18 courses in total offered in 6 types of undergraduate degrees. Its curriculum approach is theoretical and practically oriented to prepare students for the complex environment of creative economy.
SDMCA’s offers various facilities that will help students complete their education successfully. The college library acts as a source of academic material whereby a host of books, journals, and digital mater related to the different course programmes are provided to the students. For practical practicals, the institute features functional departmental laboratories which facilitates students to create and implement their ideas. There is also the health centre to provide first aid to students in case of health complications of the campus. To improve the student’s education experience, SDMCA offer sport amenities; thus students can be able to balance and participate in sports activities as they study. In addition, super IT infrastructural facility has been established in this college which is useful for the design and media students using appropriate software and technologies.
The programmes offered in the SDMCA id wide and in tune with market trends. The institute offers the Bachelors and Masters degree across different streams of design and media. Some of the widely pursued courses are B.Des in Interaction Design, Communications Design and Products Design, M.Des in Strategic Innovation and Design, and in User Experience Design. All these programmes are normally taken as full-time courses so that the students have ample time to devote themselves to each of their chosen programmes. The curriculum is thus designed to make sure that the holder gains all round knowledge about design practices, creative processes and more importantly, the ability to enable the students to design their future careers.
In admission of its students, SDMCA has set up a systematic way of selecting creative students in the society. For entry into undergraduate programs the institute accepts UCEED, which is the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design. Otherwise candidates are allowed to sit for the D School’s JET Design Exam which is portfolio assessment and interview. For master’s level programmes there is a Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) for which you need to qualify. Those who are not having the CEED scores can also apply through the JET-Design Exam mode as well. The flexible approach provoked means that deserving candidate irrespective of the backgrounds they come from, they can prove themselves.

The School of Design, Media, and Creative Arts at Jain University, Bangalore offers a wide array of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in design and media. Admission is designed to identify and select creative and talented students for the various courses offered. SDMCA accepts scores from national-level entrance examinations and also conducts its own entrance test for admission.
Undergraduate programs accept the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design, or UCEED. Besides this, students can appear for the JET-Design Exam, conducted by SDMCA, with portfolio assessment and a personal interview. Postgraduate programs are eligible with CEED scores. Those candidates without CEED scores can also apply through the JET-Design Exam mode.
The admission cycle generally follows the academic year, which in most colleges marks the beginning in August-September.
Eligibility varies with each program. Undergraduate degrees usually require 10+2 in a recognized board of examination. A postgraduate student needs to have a bachelor's degree from a recognized institute in an appropriate area. Individual programs may have additional eligibility criteria, and students are guided to check the eligibility for their preferred course by clicking on detailed eligibility criteria for respective courses.
Application Process
The process of applying to SDMCA differs from one program and another, depending upon the route one has chosen in terms of an entrance exam. Here is a general outline of the steps for the process of application.
1. Choose a preferred program. The choices here are B. Des, M. Des, BA, MA, BFA, and MFA.
2. Select your entrance exam route:
- B. Des - UCEED or JET-Design Exam
- M. Des - CEED or JET-Design Exam

3. In case one has opted for UCEED or CEED:
- Give the relevant exam
- Qualify with a valid rank
4. In case one has opted for JET-Design Exam:
- Registration will be done online through the website of SDMCA
- Give the JET-Design Exam
5. Portfolio Preparations
- Collect a portfolio with the best work of yours as a creative expression.
- It should be aligned according to the criteria of the programme one has chosen
6. Application Submission
- Online application form on the website of SDMCA
- Submission of relevant documents: academic certificates, entrance exam scores, portfolio
- Application fee payment
7. Interview
Portfolio interview and personal interview with the shortlisted candidates. Students are expected to present their work, interests, and aspirations in the field through discussions. 8. Final Selection
Performance in cumulative entrance exams, portfolio review, and interviews

- 10th and 12th standard mark sheet
- Graduation certificate with mark sheets-For Post-graduates seeking application.
- Score card of Entrance exam (UCEED/CEED/JET-Design Exam)
- Portfolio of Creative work
- Passport size photos
- Any Identity proof.
- Any certificate or award that the student holds, based on the selected course,

Degree wise Admission Process
B.Des Programs (Interaction Design, Communications Design, Products Design):
SDMCA offers various B.Des programs with a comprehensive admission process. Candidates can qualify through UCEED or appear for the JET-Design Exam. The process includes:
- Portfolio Interview
- Personal Interview
Note: UCEED rank holders can directly attend the portfolio and personal interview conducted by SDMCA. Others need to take the JET-Design Exam followed by the portfolio and personal interview.
M.Des Programs (Design Led Innovation, User Experience Design):
For M.Des programs, the admission process is similar to B.Des but is tailored for postgraduate level. The steps include:
- Portfolio Interview
- Personal Interview
Note: Candidates with valid CEED ranks can directly attend the portfolio and personal interview. Others must take the JET-Design Exam followed by the portfolio and personal interview.
BA Programs (Graphic Design, Animation and VFX, Communication Design, Fashion Design, Film and Media, Interactive Game Arts Design and Development): Likely similar to the B.Des programs, possibly a combination of entrance exams, portfolio reviews, and interviews.
MA Programs (Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Animation and VFX, Interactive Game Art, Design and Development, Film and Media): MA program admission must be similar to the M. Des programs that require entrance exams scores, reviews of portfolios, and interviews.
- BFA and MFA:
- BFA and MFA programmes offered by SDMCA.
