State Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology or SIHMCT Thuvakkudi is a reputed institution that aims at delivering great lessons in hospitality education. Owing to its specialisation of hotel and catering technology, SIHMCT provides 6 programmes of study at two levels of degree.
SIHMCT boasts of infrastructural facilities to make sure a student-oriented environment that is most convenient optimal for learning. The institute has practical teaching laboratories which provide actual operating environment in the food production and manufacturing lab, bakery lab and housekeeping. The library is serving as a knowledge database which contains different textbooks, reference books and various national and international journals related to the hospitality industry. As a result of the implementation of the programme, the college has developed adequate IT facilities to allow the students access information technology facilities such as computers and internet in the college. It equally has large and well aerated classrooms for theory with equal aspect to the practical sections. The college cafeteria thus provides not only eating facilities but can also present opportunities for performance for students especially those in the chefs’ or food service careers. Recognising the concept of education is not only the acquisition of academic knowledge but also the care of physical health, SIHMCT offers provisions of sports for students. Also, for the hostelers the institute has separate hostels for boys and girls which makes life easy for out station students.

All together the institute teach 6 courses which include full time degree and diploma courses. The premier offering is the three year full time B.Sc course in Hospitality and Hotel Administration which has an intake of 90 students. For the specific diploma courses, SIHMCT provides following two years programmes in Food Production, Food and Beverage Service, Bakery and Confectionery, House keeping and Front Office. The number of students admitted to these diploma courses varies from 45 to 90, in total 175 across all the programmes. For the diploma courses, candidates are offered direct admission based on merit in the admission test in addition to an interview test at the institutional level. Degree wise Admission Process
B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration: This is a full-time three-year program with a capacity of 90 students. Admission is based on performance of the student in the NCHM JEE, followed by online counseling of all-India merit basis. Broadly, the program aims to give coverage to the hospitality industry.
Diploma in Food Production: This is a two-year diploma course with an intake of 90 students. The admission is based on merit in the qualifying examination marks and followed by a personal interview held at the institute level.
Diploma in Bakery and Confectionery: This two-year program with an intake of 90 students follows the same admission processes as the Food Production diploma and considers merit in the qualifying examination and performance in a personal interview.
Diploma in Food and Beverage Service: This program is two-years long and offers admission to 45 students. This includes considering the marks for qualifying examinations and having a personal interview at the institute.
Diploma in House Keeping: Another program spread over two years and with 45 seats, follows the standard diploma admission process of merit-based selection and personal interview in the institute.
