Thanthai Roever Institute of Agriculture and Rural Development (TRIARD), founded in 1994, is an affiliated college situated in Valikandapuram, Perambalur, Tamil Nadu. Located across a large area of 128 acres, the establishment of TRIARD is highly focused on agricultural learning and raising the development of rural areas. It provides three full-time programmes among which there is one bachelor's degree and two diplomas, and the total strength of the institute is 321. TRIARD furnishes a personnel of 29 members, therefore catering to an appropriate student-teacher ratio to assure that students obtain quality education in the field of agriculture.
TRIARD has a number of additional facilities in the area in order to support the learning process of its students. The appearance of the institute contains well-equipped laboratories for the practical training and research. A modern computerised library that stocks over thirty thousand volumes of books, three hundred and odd journals, and subscriptions. The campus has a boys’ hostel and girls’ hostel for accommodating out-station students, and the hostels are well furnished. Extracurricular activities are well facilitated by TRIARD’s facilities, such as the sports complex complete with a gym, to make sure that the students’ physical health as they undertake their academics. The institute also has an IT section with 150 Pentium IV computers with training in other applications apart from those in the curriculum. In addition, it has an arrangement for a cafeteria, and transport facilities also improve life on campus.
The institute is offering 3 courses, and all the courses are full-time courses offered in the institute. These include one undergraduate programme which is B.Sc. Agriculture Hons., a programme that takes four years, and two-year diploma programmes that include a DiplomaDiploma in Agriculture and a Diploma in Horticulture. The total student intake capacity is still 321, however, much attention is paid to quality, and, therefore, the number of students is not large to assure quality learning and teaching environments with a focus on the number of learners per classroom.
