WIFT—Westford Institute of Film Technology is a centre for learning excellence in film technology, animation, and visual effects situated in Kochi, Kerala. Located in the pulsating city of Cochin, WIFT has set up a fine combination of creative and technical courses for those who want to be a filmmaker or an animator. The institute is fully staffed with 15 experienced professionals, making the students reach their goals through individual attention with practical knowledge.
For this reason, WIFT boasts of well-equipped facilities intended to offer practical experience to learners based on the streams they have chosen for themselves. The institute has its own library, which is well supplied and has many books and papers on filmmaking, animation, graphics, and VFX. This air-conditioned, fully computerised library has been designed and located to afford the learner a quiet environment to study in.
The current facilities include a large and airy classroom with air conditioning, LCD overhead projection systems and internet connectivity. In case of training, WIFT has developed three high-tech multimedia labs and one Chroma shooting hall. The 2D Animation Lab, which contains lightboxes, helps ensure that the animation being produced by students is constant and fluid, unlike stop motion, whose appearance can look more jagged; other labs are used for different parts of digital filmmaking and postproduction.
WIFT has a total of 4 programmes, where their flagship product is the Bachelor of Graphic Design in Film and Animation and their diploma courses are the remaining 3 programmes that respond to some specific areas of the film and animation industry. The B.Sc. in Animation and VFX is a three-year full-time programme with an intake of 28 students to provide a widespread education in the booming era of graphics, viz., animation, and VFX work.
For the students seeking to make a career in a specific field of film technology, the WIFT has one-year diploma courses in Sound Designing and Audio Post Production (limited to six seats), Film Editing and DI (20 seats), and Digital Film Technology (18 seats). Degree wise Admission Process
B.Sc Animation and VFX: A full-time three-year program with an intake of 28 students. It teaches extremely comprehensive knowledge in the field of graphics, animation, and VFX work. Admission to pursue this program is based on the performance of the student at the 10+2 or equivalent examination. The course is designed to provide both creative and technical competencies required for the animation and VFX industry.
Diploma in Sound Designing and Audio Post Production: This one-year diploma program is conducted with an intake of 6 seats only. It provides specialized training on sound design and audio post-production for films. Thus, admission likely would hinge upon the student's academic and any other relevant experience or aptitude as regards audio technology.
Diploma in Film Editing and DI: This is a one-year diploma program with an intake of 20 seats, with specialization in film editing and digital intermediate processes.
