The Indian education industry is experiencing significant growth in recent years. NCTE is planning to introduce a one-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and Master of Education (M.Ed) programme. These courses help the students in training and improving the quality of education. This article will provide the students with knowledge about the basics of one-year B.Ed and M.Ed, including eligibility, admission process, and career prospects.
Traditionally, the B.Ed programme has been a two-year course, while M.Ed usually takes another two years. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has now introduced a one-year programme of both courses to advance the process of training qualified teachers. This initiative will ease the period required for professional qualification and encourage more candidates to join the teaching profession.
This change follows the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which focuses on improving teacher training in India. The one-year course allows future teachers to get quality training in less time, so they do not have to spend extra years studying. This change will be implemented from the 2026-27 academic year.
The eligibility criteria for the one-year B.Ed and M.Ed programmes are based on the level of study. Institutions may have specific requirements regarding minimum marks and relevant subjects, students should check the respective university’s guidelines before applying for the programme.
The admission process for the one-year B.Ed and M.Ed courses will be conducted through a national-level entrance examination. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to manage the National Common Entrance Test (NCET), which will judge candidates on various aspects of education, teaching aptitude, and subject knowledge.
