Internships are a great way to gain real-life experience, develop technical skills and bridge the gap between theoretical and practical skills. While the demand for engineering students is high, still many students may face employment problems because of a lack of appropriate work experience.
Therefore, internships are very crucial for BTech students to gain both hands-on experience and better understand theoretical concepts. It also helps BTech students decide on their specialisation or area of interest. In this article, we will discuss why internships are crucial for BTech students.
An internship is a training period provided by companies for college students or fresh graduates. Internships are a great way to learn about industry practices and job-specific skills and gain exposure to real-world challenges in their chosen field of engineering.
Choosing an appropriate internship is very important for the students. Listed below are some of the steps students should follow to choose an ideal internship.
Students should begin looking for internships in their second or third year of college. It will ensure that they get maximum exposure. They can contact the placement cell of the college for further information and guidance.
Websites such as LinkedIn, Internshala and Naukri.com offer various internship opportunities specifically for engineering students. Students can choose various internships in diverse engineering specialisations, depending on their interests and future goals.
Many colleges organise internship drives and guest lectures. It can be a great way for students to connect with industry leaders. It will guide students to decide on their specialisation and desired company.
Till now we have discussed what is an internship and how can students find the right internship. Now the question arises, as to why internships are so crucial for engineering or more specifically BTech students. We will try to answer this question in this section.
While theoretical knowledge is very important for students, having relevant practical skills is very crucial. It enables the students to better understand theoretical concepts. Having the necessary practical knowledge also helps in building confidence amongst the students.
While pursuing an Internship, students get an idea of how a specific industry operates.
