Hello student,

As far as the merit based admission is concerned for Msc in biochemistry specifically talking about Delhi University, the eligibility criteria only focuses the subject at the graduation level with minimum of 60% marks or above. So in this case you not need to worry about your 10 + 2 level stream. However, you subjects at the graduation level will matter.

analysis the abnormal urine a) ritheras test b) fouchets test

DrTeeth 10th Nov, 2020

1. Fouchet's test:

Procedure-

  1. To 10 ml bile, add 2 drops of saturated MgSO4 solution, 10 ml 10% BaCl2, boil, cool and filter. Yellow precipitates will form thereafter. Take the ppt out on a filter paper.
  2. Add a drop of Fouchet’s reagent to the ppt on the filter paper. The ppt will turn blue or green.

Inference - Bile pigments absorbed on BaSO4 ppt are oxidized to coloured products by trichloroacetic acid and FeCl3 of Fouchet’s reagent.

Rothera’s test -

Procedure - Saturate 5 ml urine with ammonium sulphate crystals, then add 2 drops of fresh 5% sodium nitroprusside and 1 ml strong liquor ammonia slowly along the side of the tube. A purple ring will be observed.

Inference- Acetone or acetoacetic acid or both may be present (ketone bodies)

Short Note a) Test for uric acid b) Test for redusing sugars c) Benzidine test

sapanapatil4561 10th Nov, 2020
  • Uric acid blood test, also known as a serum uric acid measurement, determines how much uric acid is present in your blood.
  • Uric acid is a chemical produced when your body breaks down foods that contain organic compounds called purines.
  • The uric acid blood test is used to detect high levels of this compound in the blood in order to help diagnose gout.
  • The test can help determine how well your body produces and removes uric acid.
  • A uric acid test is most often used to:
  1. Help diagnose gout
  2. Help find the cause of frequent kidney stones
  3. Monitor the uric acid level of people undergoing certain cancer treatments.
  4. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy can cause high levels of uric acid to go into the blood.
  • A uric acid test can be done as a blood test or a urine test.
  1. During a blood test, a health care professional will take a blood sample from a vein in your arm, using a small needle. After the needle is inserted, a small amount of blood will be collected into a test tube or vial.
  2. For a uric acid urine test, you'll need to collect all urine passed in a 24-hour period. This is called a 24-hour urine sample test. Your health care provider or a laboratory professional will give you a container to collect your urine and instructions on how to collect and store your samples.
Test for Reducing Sugar :

  • Non-reducing sugars are sugars whichdo not have an aldehyde functional group- the reducing species. As non-reducing sugars do not have the aldehyde group, they cannot reduce copper (I) (blue) to the copper(II) (red).
  • Principle of Benedict's Test is:The monosaccharide products of hydrolysis are reducing sugars i.e. have the aldehyde functional group and can reduce copper in the presence of alkali  producing the colour changes.
  • Benedict's reagent is  to test for  reducing sugar: glucose. Benedict's reagent starts out aqua-blue. As it is heated in the presence of reducing sugars, it turns yellow to orange. The "hotter" the final color of the reagent, the higher the concentration of reducing sugar.
  • Benzidine Test:
  • It is a sensitivetestfor the presence of blood (as in urine or feces) based on the production of a blue color upon contact with a solution of benzidine, hydrogen peroxide, and glacial acetic acid.

Can a pcm student take biochemistry?

Subhrajit Mukherjee 3rd Nov, 2020

It depends on the university criteria which will say you can or can't take admission to courses like Bsc Biochemistry after having a non-Bio back ground. Although most of the colleges have no obligation of bio. So you can pursue BSc Microbiology from most of the colleges but there can be some exception.

So I will recommend to check the criteria of the university you want to apply at. Now I can say you wont face any problem in Biochemistry as the courses are so structured that you will get a sufficient knowledge of Biology as required for chemistry. IF some problem arises its dependent on your dedication and thus I will say that there is no problem in terms of studying BioChemistry after 10+2 with PCM.

I hope my answer helps you. All the very best for your future endeavors!
