Should I take a dual degree in IIST or take a B.Tech in Engineering Physics at IIT Hyderabad and then go for further studies? I want to get into astrophysics.
If we look at comparative analysis of IIST and IITH then I'd say that IIST is better for a narrow field of area ie astrophysics due to the following reasons
- Selective field: IIST is more focused on space science which also allines with your interest in astrophysics, IIST is newer and has well equipped labs at par with older IITs
- Placements: if you look at the placements then simply put IITs generally get better placements, but IIST being a new colleges get lesser visits from companies.
- Core: if you r intrested in more theory and science then you should go for IIST but if you are more interested in technology, engineering and placements then go for IITH
Whats the scope of engineering physics. What is engineering physics?
Hello Aspirant
Engineering Physics can be stated as the study of combined discipline of Physics ,Mathematics,Biology,Social Science and Engineering particularly computer, electrical, nuclear etc
Scope of Engineering Physics
In Scope you can pursue pure Physics for your studies or you can also do Mtech in Electrical Engineering or material sciences from IITs
You can get promising jobs in government organization like ISRO,VSCC and National Physics Lab
You can also Get into research and teaching lines
Thanks!
what is the scope in engineering physics.
Hello Ashish,
After pursuing engineering in physics, you can opt for the following career field -
Medical Physicist
Physicst researcher
Solid State physics engineer
Nuclear physicst
Astrophysicist
Geophysics engineer
Research and development scientist
Good luck,
Hope it helps :)
After doing engineering physics from IIT what are the job opportunities and option available for a student? Answer it in detail.
After doing engineering physics from IIT if you look upon the jobs in engineering physics field then hardly any company visit specific to engineering physics.
Since many other companies from sectors such as consultancy IT they often hire irrespective of branch so the job opportunities are equal be phit engineering physics or any other branch so there is nothing specific about engineering physics if jobs are concerned.
the other opportunities include if you are genuinely interested in engineering physics then you can go for higher studies for PhD in IIT or some top engineering college abroad.
What are the closing ranks for Engineering Physics branch in IITs for General Category male candidate?
Hi Aruna.
The cutoff ranks for Engineering physics vary for different IITs. For example-
- IIT Delhi- Engineering Physics closing rank for general category last year was 2097 AIR.
- IIT Bombay- The closing rank was 1041 in 2018.
- IIT Kanpur- It has a Physics branch, whose cutoff closing rank last year was 3586.
So yeah, even Engineering Physics has high cutoffs in the top IITs, hence prepare well for JEE Advanced. All the best.
WHAT IS ENGINEERING PHYSICS?WHAT IS THE SCOPE FOR THIS COURSE IN FUTURE?WHICH ARE TOP COLLEGES TO STUDY THIS?
Hi,
Engineering physics is a course which is about specialization in the study of physics and its applications. It is a vigorous study of a concept like semiconductor devices, electromagnetic theromody names. The course is a combination of the theoretical concept and application of the theory part.
The scope the physics engineering are -
1. Industrial engineering
2. Research scientist
3. Physicists.
4. Financial Analyst
The top colleges for engineering physics
1. It Delhi
2. IIT Madras
3. The neotia college
4. Chandigarh university.
5. BITS Hyderabad.
engineering physics in which iit or other college have with cut off

IIT Delhi: 5946
IIT Roorkee: 7726
IIT Hyderabad: 7819
IIT Guwahati: 10669
IIT Mandi: 14137
Indian Institute of Technology Indian School of Mines Dhanbad: 14991
Indian Institute of Technology Banaras Hindu University Varanasi for B.Tech and M.Tech Engineering Physics: 13434
Do let us know if you have any other queries.
Good Luck!
With a percentile of 97.786(general) in jee main 2020, which govt colleges should I expect? I want to pursue Engineering Physics. Im from West Bengal.
Your rank can be predicted by using the formula, (100-your total percentile)*869010/100. In your case, your approximate rank would be 18596 . Let's say the number of candidates for April exam increased to 12,00,000 then your final rank shall be (100 - your total score) X 12,00,000/100. Now to predict colleges, please use our college predictor: https://engineering.careers360.com/jee-main-college-predictor
how many colleges are there which offer engineering physics as a branch
The below colleges provide b.tech course in engineering physics
- IIT Bombay
- Delhi technological University
- IIT Madras
