All the very best for the future!
See there will be south Indian foods in hostel but you may expect only 2/3 times in a week. I belong to NIT Durgapur. Every Thursday we get Idli and Vada in the breakfast. Sambar is there in lunch for 7 days. We get Uttapam on Sunday's breakfast. Don't worry about foods as there will be plenty of options in each meal. You will get Roti, Rice, curry and dal in lunch as well as in dinner as a common dish and with this there are multiple options for veg and nonveg students. If you want to get a list of foods of any particular NIT, you will get it on internet.
Hope you understand. All the best.
Hello Aspirant,

Hello Bollu VidyaSri,
Yes you can very well join food science courses if you have interest and liking towards learning about the components of food, nutrition and of course research. It is a multi-disciplinary field which involves chemistry, nutrition science, biochemistry, microbiology and engineering . You will learn about flavor chemistry, product development, food processing and quality testing . After studies you can go as researcher, nutrition expert or therapist, quality assurance manager etc upon completion of further studies ,noted that just a bachelors will not be enough to land you in a good position. If you are more technically and business inclined you may take up food technology course to get into food processing industry where you will deal with processing , packaging ,sales, marketing ,supply chain and more . This field has wider scope in terms of immediate job opportunities. Some top food companies you may enter are :
Nestle India Ltd ,Parle Agro Pvt Ltd ,Britannia Industries Ltd ,PepsiCo and so on.
Do more research on this industry in terms of work profile, future score etc and decide based on your interests.

All the best.
Depends on where you are joining. As far as I know best Institutes for Food Technology include IIT Kharagpur, NIT Rourkela, GB Pant and a couple more.
As far as Core placements are concerned they might be dearth, but that doesnt mean there are no opportunities. As far as IIT KGP and GB Pant are concerned, companies like Mondelez, Nestle and Aditya Birla Group are regular recruiters. Apart from these there are numerous FMCGs which line up for taking Agricultural , Dairy and Food Process Engineers. Most of the Placements are in either of Delhi NCR, Punjab, Haryana Region or to the West in Gujrat and Maharashtra.
You can also pursue a PGP-FABM from IIM Ahmedabad or an MBA from IRMA Ahmedabad after Btech in Food Technology.
There are Excellent Placements and secondly the chances of securing a seat in these 2 courses are comparatively better for one having a background in Food Technology.
Australia and New Zealand provide excellent opportunities for Food Engineers and Food Quality Managers and one can even plan a Masters in Food Process or Agriculture Management post Bachelors.
Besides this one can always shift sectors to Non Core and IT or Consultancy, while pursuing Btech. Perhaps Food Process and Agricultural Engineers are born Consultants and Business Managers, as they have several components of Economics and Rural Innovation Management in their respective courses.
Secondly, an Agricultural and Food Process Engineer always has the flexibility to change streams and pursue Masters in Chemical Process Engineering ,Engineering Science, Renewable Energy, Sustainability and Environment Engineering or Bioengineering and Biotechnology as and when desired apart from Food and Dairy Technology.
