My sons AIR is 16039 in general category in from West Bengal state. Can he get MS (general surgery / orthopedics) or DNB Ortho? If so, in which colleges? Kindly advise.

Srijika Bhattacharyya 31st Jan, 2020
Hello,
I am assuming that you are asking for state quota in West Bengal. West Bengal has only 8 orthopaedic seats and it is very difficult to get a seat. According to last year's cutoffs the last rank for ms (orthopaedics) in the unreserved category was 9751 admitted in KPC medical college. The rank for diploma in orthopaedics was 12,431 in Medical College, Kolkata. So, it seems difficult for him to get orthopaedics. However, he can try for ophthalmology, anaesthesia, pharmacology, pathology, community medicine or diploma in O. B. G. He can also try for management seats in which case he can get general medicine, orthopaedics, surgery.

Hope this helps.

What should be a better option dnb paediatric or MS (general surgery)

Charvi Nayyar 10th Feb, 2020

hello

Master of Surgery is a 3-year full-time postgraduate course. Eligibility for this is an M.B.B.S degree from a medical college recognized by MCI with minimum 50% marks. This course is devoted to giving students all the scientific skills and knowledge to become a surgeon in any specialization.

Dnb pediatrics is higher than md pediatrics. Dnb pediatrics is recognised even outside India. They are 2 types of dnb (primary and secondary). Primary dnb pediatrics is 3 year course done after mbbs. Secondary dnb pediatrics is 2 year course done after dch. The goal of DNB course in Pediatrics is to produce a competent pediatrician who recognizes the health needs of infants, children and adolescents .

both courses are good in its own way. on one head you will deal with children and on the other hand you will have to perform surgery. both the careers are equally rewarding so you should make a decision as per your interest.

hope this helps
