Benefits of Genetics Courses:
ELIGIBILITY
If you are interested in admission in bachelor courses, you have to complete higher secondary examination with Physics, Chemistry & Biology. The duration of this course is three years. Some colleges also conduct an aptitude test for admission in B.Sc Genetics degree course.
To get admissions in master courses, you must have done a bachelor’s degree in the relevant field from any recognized college or university. Some institutions also give admission in genetic courses on the basis of the merit list of the qualifying examination.
CAREER AND JOB
There are a lot of career opportunities in the field of biology, biomedical and life Sciences. The job opportunity for a genetics degree holder is continuing to expand. The genetic employees are not sufficient now, that’s why the demand of genetics continues to increase. Geneticists can work in various capacities for many different types of employers. Some Employment area where you work after studying genetics course:
Salary Package
Your salary will be depended on your qualification, experience, location, etc. The starting salary of the geneticist is Rs. 20000 to Rs. 25000 in India. Students have a bachelor degree in genetics, they can earn 3.5 lakh to 5 lakh per year. In the USA, the average annual base salary of geneticists is $159,339 to $194,895.
“As more experience, you gain in this field, the higher salary packages will be offered in both public as well as private sector”.
Hi Sritam.
Genetic engineering is a highly specialized field of study and thus offered mostly at Master's level which is also the basic requirement for employment in most companies. In the USA, which is curretly a hub for biotechnology as well as advancements in genetics, the salary varies between is $159,399 to $194,895. However, the figure increases with experience and can even double up for individuals with more than five years of experience and a doctorate degree.
Hope it helps.

If you have set your aim at becoming a Research Scientist in genetics (Geneticist), then I would suggest you to go fro a B. Sc. in either general science or life sciences.
Once you've completed you Bachelor's, you can apply for a Master's in Genetics (advisable), Molecular biology (advisable) or Genetic engineering. Go for reputed institutes that offer good research exposure. In between your vacations, apply and undergo internships that'll add value and hone your technical skills.
After getting done with Master's, you can apply for scholarships for PhD in India as well as abroad and perhaps, start a career in genetics and genetic engineering.
A career in genetics or any branch of science requires utmost patience and consistency. Though a Master's can do for many positions, a doctorate degree is desirable for many senior positions in research organizations and universities for a career in research as well as academics.
Hope this helps. Feel free to get in touch with us for any query.
All the best.
