what is an idea upsc timetable if I m a college student,?

pdwords Student Expert 26th Dec, 2020

Hello,

Preparing the timetable is something you have to on your own, the reason being you know yourself the best, not everyone can follow the same routine, what works for one individual might not be the same case for other, also you're in college hence your academic studies too are important,  UPSC covers such an extensive syllabus hence it helps if you can make a timetable on daily, weekly, and monthly basis, by doing this you won't lag behind, another important thing which  I can tell you is start in a gradual manner, such as go through the syllabus of UPSC, take a print out and learn it by heart, as this will enable will you to focus on what to read and what to skip, make a habit of reading newspaper everyday with emphasize on editorials national and international news, economy, polity, science and technology etc, if you find any topic important you can also makes notes whether it's digital or handwritten as per preference. when it comes to study materials NCERT books are the foundation, hence build the base strong, and then move towards the standard books such as

For Prelims, you can refer the following books:

History ;

  • NCERT Class XI and XII
  • India's Struggle for Independence by Bipin Chandra

Indian Culture

  • Art and Culture by Nitin Singhania

Geography ;

  • NCERT Class VI to XII
  • GC Leong's Physical Geography
  • World Atlas

Economics ;

  • NCERT Class XI
  • Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh

International Relations & Polity ;

CSAT ;

  • Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning by RS Agarwal
  • M Tyra's Quicker Maths

You can refer the following books for four General Studies Paper;

GS I - For History , Class XI NCERT book with India's struggle for Independence by Bipin Chandra,India after Independence by Bipan Chandra,History of Medieval India by Satish Chandra

For Geography refer World Geography and Geography of India by Majid Hussain, GC Leong's Physical and Human Geography with NCERT Class XI book.

For GS II - Polity and International Relations , refer Indian Polity by Lamikanth,India's Foreign Policy by Rajiv Sikri

For GS III - For Economics refer Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh, read ARC report along with Economic Survey and Fiscal Budget.

For GS IV - For Ethics refer a book named Lexicon by Niraj Kumar, also you can go through study material of IGNOU.

Always keep your resources minimal, and revision is the key here, read one book many a time than many books one time.

Go through previous year papers for practice as well as understanding the paper pattern, type of questions etc, you can get it at the official website of UPSC, also practice answer writing in advance as writing mains is huge task, you should consider going through topper's answer sheets in order to get an idea about how to present your answer, try to offer a holistic answer in terms of political, social, geographical, economical sense. when you will be about to appear for the exam, apply mock tests on regular basis to analyze your preparation.

I'll again emphasize it's good you want to start early for UPSC but don't neglect your studies, as UPSC is conducted over a period of two years, one year for preparation of exam and another one for appearing in the exam, hence sustaining the inner drive, motivation is of immense importance, it requires single-minded focus, dedication and perseverance to succeed this exam, for starters go through the syllabus regularly, read newspaper such as The Hindu/The Indian Express. and read NCERTs to build the base strong. and later move towards covering the other areas of preparation.

How should I prepare for GATE in Humanities branch? As its been included for the first time, there is no previous years papers available. Though sample paper has been uploaded by GATE authority but a single sample paper is not enough to give complete idea.

ginnisachdeva02_9364270 Student Expert 24th Dec, 2020

Hey!

GATE (XH) paper- humanities and social sciences consist of general aptitude and reasoning and comprehension (as mandatory subjects) and you can choose any subject of your interest from economics, english, sociology, psychology, philosophy and linguistics. And the syllabus for optional subject section mostly contains the topics from the undergraduation degree, you can check out the syllabus at official website. Also, as you said this is occurring for the first time, so you cannot have any previous years papers for any idea, but GATE has released some sample papers to students which they can refer to get an idea about the exam pattern, type of question asked etc. Also, try to solve these sample papers by considering a stopwatch with you so as to check your time management. And for aptitude section you can refer to the RS Agarwal quantitative aptitude book.

can i quit my bsc 2 years and join btech is good idea or not ????

Subhrajit Mukherjee 23rd Dec, 2020

If you are not getting interested in the subjects taught in BSc then you can do it. But this 2 years of your life will get wasted.

Now if the scenario is like you want to pursue BTech for Jobs then you can do a thing. You should complete your BSc and then sit for Lateral entry exams by which you will get a relaxation of 1 year in BTech course i.e., you will get the Btech degree in 3 years.

You can do this too. You should check that in your state there are this lateral entry option is available or not. In Westbengal we have JELET by which the people can get admitted laterally after their BSc.

I hope my answer helps you. All the very best for your future endeavors!

can i clear the examination of mppeb Group 5 Lab assistant and Staff nurse ECG,OT tech. and all only by Reading previous year question papers i dont any idea about this paper i was giving it for the first time help me in this

Nive 22nd Dec, 2020

Hello, Since the exam is around the corner there is very little we can do now. You cannot just rely on previous questions. But start now since something is better than nothing. First the pattern is you will get 25 marks from - General knowledge, Hindi, English, Aptitude, Science, Math and remaining 75 marks from technical grade questions. So focus on any question bank for the technical grade questions and not just the previous year questions. Don't think about the result and focus on learning today itself and keep in mind that it will help someday.

Best wishes.

hello, I have been alloted to DR. RBCAU PUSA , Bihar for bsc community science through icar . I have no idea about this course and the college should i take admission there ?? pls suggest me

ojaswiyolo Student Expert 16th Dec, 2020

Hello

I will give you a gist about  DR. RBCAU PUSA , Bihar in the subject community science so that you can decide whether it is a course good enough. The college is a central university and studying here (if you have got the seat through icar) will get you a scholarship to but the catch is that you might not get placed after 4 years of BSc (as is with any other BSc subject), you will have to go for Masters (Be it in community science or MBA). It is a prestigious institute and the faculty is great , so is the infrastructure.
