Dear Candidate,
You can choose any subject which is available in the list of subjects for optional in UPSC exams. It has little to do with your graduation degree. You can choose any optional subject for your UPSC exam, there are no limitations for the graduation subject as such. Just sometimes, in interviews, there may be questions on your core topic at times. You can choose any subject irrespective of your core graduation.
Thanks.
Hello Sangmitra Kushwaha , From some research on internet about post graduation in Journalism I found that anyone from any stream can do Journalism because it is a good field if you are interested in doing that so don't worry about your marks in graduation. And you are interested in Journalism then go for it.
Hope it will be helpful for you :)
If you meant UPSE, then no. You are free to chose any subject as an optional subject.
UPSC is a 3 stage selection process involving Prelims, Mains and Interview which tests your personality test. Prelims has 2 Papers namely General Studies and CSAT.
General Studies has Current Events, History of India and Indian National Movement, Indian and World Geography, Indian Polity and Governance, Economic and Social Development, Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity and Climate Change and General Science.
CSAT has Comprehension, Interpersonal skills including communication skills, Logical Reasoning and Analytical ability, Decision making and problem solving, General Mental Ability, Basic numeracy and Data Interpretation.
So you can pick up any optional subject that you want. Either something that complements with your Graduation or something that interests you.
