Hello I am Nirav Parmar. Based upon candidate response and answer key that had released, I got 50 marks in Biotechnology in IIT JAM. is there any chance of getting admission in IISC/IITs. I am belonging from SC Cast.

lubhan cherwoo 22nd Feb, 2020
Hi,
It is difficult to evaluate the rank from the marks right now but according to calculations, I would suggest that your rank would be something around 230 and with that rank under SC category you can go for admission in:

  • MSc in Biotechnology at IIT Bombay
opening rank-174 closing rank-630
  • MSc in Biotechnology at IIT Roorkee
opening rank-113 closing rank-530

got 18.9 in iit jam biotechnology, any chances of getting a seat in IISC or in other institutes, I belong to Sc category.

lubhan cherwoo 21st Feb, 2020
With 18.9 marks in IIT JAM biotechnology from SC category you have a very skim chance of qualifying for any of the top University is in India as cutoff for Biotechnology are quite high. It would be difficult to evaluate the rank from the marks you have provided, but looking at the previous year trends you crossed the cutoff for passing iit jam biotechnology( cutoff for iit jam Biotechnology for sc category are around 12), so I would suggest you to wait for the actual result

The cutoff for IISC Banglore, on their website is mentioned to be 5001-8000 for jee , does that mean only students between these raks are allowed. what if i am getting like 3000 rank??

dheeraj reddy 15th Feb, 2020
Hi anish!

The cutoff range mentioned is the opening rank - closing rank. That means that a candidate of rank 5001 chose the branch offered in the Institute and prior to him no one chosen and the closing rank would mean that the last seat is filled by the 8000 ranked student.

That does not mean that only the ones within the range should chose, any student even the rank no. 1 student can chose the branch if he desires. The data only represents the students' ranks range who have chosen the particular branch in that particular year.

With 3000 rank , you would be perfectly eligible to chose that particular branch in IISc

Goodluck!
