can i do integrated PhD programme in biological sciences (microbiology and cell biology) from IISc Bangalore after completion of my msc ?

Manidipa Kundu Student Expert 13th Feb, 2020

hi,

see in general phd course duration is 3-4 years, but integrated phd means in that course you can learn about masters program as well as research program. the eligibility criteria for iisc phd course in biological sciences  is candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Biotechnology or Chemistry or Physics or Mathematics or Pharmacy or  Veterinary Sciences or  Agriculture course pass holder under the  pattern of 10+2+3/4 system, also you need to qualify in jam 2020 if you are attempting to this year admission, now if you already enrolled for master, that also will no problem as there is no upper age limit, however your masters certificate may not be evaluated since minimum criteria is bachelors degree for integrated phd course.

what is the scope for students passed out from IISc Bangalore, which is best either IIT or IISc

Shudhanshu Gupta Student Expert 11th Feb, 2020
Hello.
Scope after doing course from IISC or IIT depends upon your course which you did from either of the institute, actually IISC offers you theoretical research based courses while IIT offers you more practical (technical) based course, also some theoretical course.
Research level course has higher scope if you did it from IISC while for technical course scope is high in IIT as per the placement prospective.
Best of luck.

  • Candidates should have passed 12th or equivalent qualifying examination.

is iisc admission based on jee main percentile.

Yastika Kumar 1st Feb, 2020

Hi Amit,

During admission process merit list created which is not only based on IIT-JEE mains but also on IIT-JEE Advance, NEET-UG and KVPY.

For IIT-JEE mains and advance they had mentioned the minimum percentage to be secured by the candidate of respective category. (60%-GEN, 54%-EWS,54%-OBC-NCL, 30%-SC/ST/PwD) so it is unlikely they are considering the percentile as percentile is used to divide the population (here it is no. of candidates) into groups where percentage is a number in each hundred.

For example if your percentile is 90 then it means you are better than 90% of others whereas 90% = (your marks/total marks) * 100.
