D block elements are called as transition elements. F block elements are called as inner transition metals. F block elements were actually a part of group 3 only but due to some similarities in their properties they got a different space in f block table.

Hello

For attempting any type of mcqs you should follow excluding other options this is possible when you had multiple revisions of that subject

And inorganic chemistry has everything to learn and remember so for that you should read them again and again and try to make some mnemonics for easy recall and learn them again and again before exams

This well help you to exclude all the wrong options and then you can score well

And try to learn by writing that again and again

in inorganic chemistry mostly questions are with signs and even if doing periodic table with exceptions and all my mcqs are getting incorrect leading negative marking!Any solution?

Hi,

You need to do the following to prepare for inorganic:

  1. Make a list of all the exception of a particular block elements ( suppose d block).
  2. Put that list up on the front wall of your study table.
  3. Watch them daily. No need to read. Just watch them in a regular basis.
  4. Find out problems ( that's going to a tideous job indeed) related to those exception and solve them. Don't forget to take help from your prepared list while solving problems.

You will soon be a master of inorganic. Don't leave inorganic problems in NEET. Inorganic is a highly scoring subject. You just need to practice a lot of questions to grasp all the information of inorganic.

Variation in ionisation enthalpies: Ionisation enthalpy increases with increases in atomic number along the period. Some elements show irregularities in this trend due to type of electron to be removed and the extra stability of the exactly half-filled and completely filled electronic configurations.

Variation along the period: In the second period Li to Be, the ionisation enthalpy increases due to increased nuclear charge and smaller atomic radius of Be as compared that of Li. For Be to B, although the nuclear charge of B is more than that of be, yet the ionisation enthalpy of B is lower than that of Be. For B to C to N, the first ionisation enthalpy of these elements keeps on increasing due to progressively increasing nuclear charge and decreasing atomic radius. For N to O, the first ionisation enthalpy of oxygen is lower than that of N although the nuclear charge of O is higher than that of nitrogen. For O to F to Ne, the first ionisation enthalpy increases from O to F to Ne because of the increasing nuclear charge.

Similar variations in the first ionisation enthalpies of the elements of the third period have been observed.

Variation of electron gain enthalpy in a group: In general, the electron gain enthalpies become less negative as we move down a group. But the electron gain enthalpies of some of the elements of second period that is O, and F are however, less negative than the corresponding elements that is s and Cl of the third period.

Thus the electron gain enthalpy of F is unexpectedly less negative than that of Cl.

Also the electron gain enthalpy of noble gases is positive as atoms of these elements have completely filled subshells.

Variation in atomic radii: The atomic radius abruptly increases as we move from halogen (F) to the inert gas (Ne). This is due to the reason that in case of inert gases all the orbitals are completely filled and hence the electronic repulsions are maximum.

Variation of valence in a period: As we move across a period from left to right, the number of valence electrons increases from left to right, the number of valence electrons increases from 1 to 8. But the valence of elements with respect to H or O first increases from 1 to 4 and then decreases to zero.

Electronegativity

This is the easiest of the exceptions. We have said that electronegativity increases to the right. This is true except that the trend does NOT include the noble gases. That means that fluorine has the highest electronegativity, not Ne or He. This is because the definition of electronegativity contains the phrases "in a covalent bond." Since the noble gases don't bond, they don't have electronegativities.

It should be noted that a few of the noble gases have been forced to bond (at high temperture and high pressure with fluorine). You may find tables that, therefore, list values for the electronegativity of Xe and Kr, but these are not terribly important values to know.

. For inorganic chemistry, you must refer to the NCERT. Coordination points get 9% of weightage. Thermidynamics takes the 8% and Equilibrium takes the 6% weightage slots respectively. Chemical Bonding and Organic structure carries the 5% weightage slot and rest of the topics carry 2-3% weightage in the exam paper.Chemical Bonding, Molecular structure, Solutions, Block Elements, Alcholos, Phenols and Ehters. Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic acids are important topics. Organic comprises of many reactions and reagents which can be practised by writing over and over again. how to prepare notes for inorganic chemistry?

Hello dear ,

to prepare for Inorganic chemistry , just read NCERT books . NCERT has lots of information which most of the students generally miss out in case of not reading them.In inorganic chemistry, you should study periodic table and chemical bonding very throughly. They contain all the concepts of inorganic chemistry and majority of the questions are asked from these topics. Practice a lot of questions on chemical bonding.Make your own notebook in which there are only chemical reactions. inorganic is moderately tough but as not as physical chemistry.

Hi aspirant,

The syllabus and content of class 12 of each chapter are interrelated and one can get confused if he/she doesn't study in a systematic and orderly manner. As far as inorganic chemistry is concerned you should complete the basic first. You can indeed start with Periodic table followed by Chemical bonding. Thereafter I will suggest you to follow the sequence of NCERT. NCERT has given every chapter in a systematically arranged way so that a student finds easy and enjoy while learning.

I am an NITian and not IITian. I can answer it in a better way because I have realized and I know what it takes to be an IITian.

In Inorganic chemistry you have to mainly memorize the facts, except in some cases. At initial stage you can refer to NCERT and memorize it thoroughly and ensure that not a single line is left unstudied. Then you should refer to some advanced text books. Keep memorizing periodically and keep revising each chapter.

Coordinate geometry is very much important for JEE advanced point of view. And it is easy to score in this topic of mathematics. Coordinate geometry is less about concept and more about how fast you can see the actual trick to solve the problem. Someone can take 2 pages to solve a particular question but a smart aspirant will solve it instantly. This is what works in JEE Advanced. At first you should solve your coaching notes questions and then past year paper. Now comes the actual work to be done for excelling in JEE Advanced. Now start solving a different book, probably TMH or SK Goyal will do. Solve as much questions as you can. If you find these questions easy then switch yourself to SL Loney and start the same.

The next mistake most people make in this section is calculation mistakes. Avoid this at any cost and this can be achieved by practicing and only practicing.

If you follow this then you are surely going to crack JEE advanced.

will there not be any questions from inorganic chemistry in conedk 2020???

Inorganic is by far the most important topic in whole chemistry for competitive exams. There will has been question from this topic and they are expected this year too. Past year trends show that 5-6 questions have been asked constantly every year from this topic. The number may go slightly up and down depending on the year but I do not think that paper setters will completely ignore this topic. From my own personal experience, I can say that NCERT and previous year question papers are enough for this.
