as I am preparing for IIT jam physics on which topic I have to make my command from 12th grade mathmatics?

Vidya Kasi 24th Aug, 2021

Hi nilesh,

The syllabus of IIT Joint admission test(JAM) for Physics which I got from the official website consists of 7 topics. One of the topic is mathematical methods. JAM 2022 will be conducted by IIT Roorkee and it is said they have done some changes in the syllabus so check it out. Now the syllabus of 12th grade maths differs for each board. I am going to take reference from NCERT 12th maths textbook which is highly recommended for competitive exams and I would personally suggest it too. Now after comparing both syllabus of IIT Jam Physics and NCERT maths book, the topics which needs the most attention is Algebra i.e matrices and determinants, Calculus i.e integrals, derivatives and differential equations and Vectors excluding the 3 dimensional geometry. Starting from 12th board seems a good strategy and I hope your hard work pays off. I hope you got the answer you were looking for if not please l et me know.

All the very best.

For IIT JAM physics having clear concepts and strong basics are always important. Remember selection of books are very important. Now you can read books which you have read in your semester exams but be relevant with the syllabus of IIT JAM. Also do practice previous year papers in order to test your skills in problems and to get accustomed with pattern of the paper.

Some of the books which are said to be the classic books for IIT JAM/JEST/TIFR are :

  • Mechanics: 'David Morin','AB GUPTA' JC UPADHYAY, GOLDSTEIN
  • Waves: 'NK BAJAJ'
  • Quantum Physics (all the books are relevant to all the exams): Griffiths, Beiser, Resnick-Eisberg, Zetilli, Arhuldas(problem solving)
  • Atomic Physics: Rajkumar
  • Mathematical Methods: ML BOAS, HK DASS
  • Electronics: VK MEHETA (Both Digital and Analog)
  • Statistical Physics & Thermodynamics: BANSAL & GHOSH, Zemansky
  • Electrodynamics: Purcell, Griffiths
  • For problem solving you may use the books by Samvedna Publishers

approximately how much rank I have to get in IIT jam physics for 2024 session to get seat in IIT or nits college

NAVNEET PANDEY 6th Apr, 2021

Hello pooja,

The cutoff for IIT in physics is around 20.70-22.70.

But it will be better if you score more than 24.70 as then you will definitely get admission in IIT through JAM.

The cutoff rank for JAM IIT is from 1-69 for general

For OBC it's between 124-272.

For SC/ST is 192-926.

Specifically for IIT Bhuvneshwar the cutoff rank is 272-393 for general.

For more details you can also ask for specific college so that we can help you further.

I hope it helps,

Best of luck
