how to prepare for kvpy SB stream starting from now?

chinchujoseph1993 20th Nov, 2020

Hello,

HOpe you are doing good.

KVPY SB is a scholarship program  for a student who is in the first year of their bachelor course in basic science such as B.SC, B.S, B.Stats and B. Maths.  it is administered by the Indian Institute of Science.

Below I have given some tips to prepare for the exam:

  1. First understand the exam pattern and the syllabus . There is no prescribed syllabus like other competitive exams. I have shared some important topics from each subject below.

Physics: Mechanics, Ray Optics, Electromagnetism, Waves

Chemistry: Physical Chemistry, Atomic Structure, Chemical Bonding, Chemical Energetics, Organic Chemistry, Stoichiometry and Gaseous State

Mathematics: Algebra, Geometry, Basics of Number Theory, Quadratic Equation, Progression and Series, Permutations and Combination, Basic Geometry

Biology: Biomolecules, Molecular Genetics, Cell Biology, Biotechnology

  1. Next prepare a timetable. You can decide how many days or hours you will be keeping for each subjects and topics, revision and to practice previous year papers and mock tests. Manage time in a way that you spend enough time on difficult and more important topics and also ensure that you have ample time for revision and practice.

  2. While studying the subjects make sure you keep note of important points and equations in a separate book . This will come in handy at the time of revision.

  3. Another important thing to keep in mind is to find the correct books for you . Some books may be hard to follow, so try to get materials that are written in a student friendly language. Below I have given some books that you can refer to for each of the subjects:

Physics: Fundamentals of Physics by David Halliday, Robert Resnick, Jearl Walker; Concept of Physics by DC Pandey, Tata Mc. Graw Hill’s Book by HC Verma

Chemistry: Moderns ABC of Chemistry for Class – XI With CD by Modern Publishers, NCERT Physical & Organic Chemistry by OP Tandon

Biology: Biological Sciences by Taylor Green and Stout by Cambridge Publications, Elementary Biology (Volume – 1) by K.N. Bhatia, M.P. Tyagi; Publisher: Trueman

Mathematics: A Das Guptha, Mathematics for class XII, Problem in IIT Maths by R.D.Sharma

  1. Once you are done studying the subjects start revising and doing previous year papers and mock question papers on a daily basis . This helps you to recollect the formulas, gives you an idea on where you have to improve and will also help you to manage time better. Make it a point to solve atleast one paper every day during the month you have kept apart for revision and practicing question papers.

I have shared 2019s paper and the answer key in the links below:

Paper http://kvpy.iisc.ernet.in/main/resources/2019/STREAM%20SBSX%203rd%20Nov%202019.pdf

Answer key: http://kvpy.iisc.ernet.in/main/resources/2019/Answer_Keys_03_NOV_2019_SB-SX.pdf

  1. Another important thing is that don’t study anything new at the last minute and this can create confusions.

  2. NEVER TAKE YOUR HEALTH FOR GRANTED . Get proper sleep, eat healthy food and keep your self hydrated. Ensure that you do not stress your self too much and give enough time to relax and take breaks. Always remember that if you are stressed out then take a break as it would not bring out any good results when you put yourself in more stress.

  3. Finally, on the day of the exam relax and don’t get tensed. Keep your mind clear and give the exam.  You will surely be able to do well.

Following these and being completely dedicated to this I am sure you will be able to well in the exam

Good Luck

Dear Student,

First of all your syllabus for chemistry includes , Thermodynamics, Chemical Reactions, Basic Concepts of Chemistry, Periodic Classification of Elements, Carbon compounds, Acids, Bases and Salts, States of Matter: Gases and Liquids, Classification of Elements & Periodicity in Properties, Metals and Non-Metals, Environmental Chemistry, Solid State, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Isolation of Elements, Surface Chemistry, Chemical Bonding, Chemistry of Noble Gases, Structure & Bonding, Alkenes, Cycloalkenes, Dienes and Alkynes .

The best way to prepare for this section is to solve the previous year papers of KVPY.  Solve as many papers as you can . You can also refer to some good books like NCERT Chemistry, Chemistry by OP Tondon, Pardeep's Chemistry etc. This is enough for your preparation.

Which exams chemistry section is more difficult jee main or kvpy SB stream?

Atrayee Gayen 19th Nov, 2020

Hey aspirant,

Chemistry section is partly difficult and partly easier than JEE 's Chemistry syllabus.

There are certain topics that comes in KVPY Chemistry part which are not in JEE MAINS Syllabus , like Miller Indices of Solid State. So, you need to study few extra topics other than the JEE syllabus.

On the other hand, questions from organic chemistry and inorganic chemistry which are asked in KVPY are even simpler than those asked in JEE Mains.

It can be said that KVPY exam is overall tougher than JEE Mains as it involves harder concepts and more brain teasing questions. But of compared to JEE Advanced, then JEE Advanced is surely the toughest as it involves lengthy and high standard questions that many students even fail to understand at times.

Hope this helps,

All the best!

which is more difficult jee mains or kvpy SB stream ?

Shrishty sahu 19th Nov, 2020
Dear student,
JEE Main can be considered to easier to KVPY. The selection rate of KVPYis 1.8% only. KVPYis meant for testing an individual's basics and research aptitude while JEE Main requires more memorising power of a student. Many questions of KVPY specially maths are almost equal with JEE advance in terms of difficulty. Jee main is very easy, kvpy is even difficult than jee advanced. . Kvpy has an interview round too and the interviewer tends to ask questions quite similar to 11th and 12th NCERT level.

How much can I score in kvpy SB stream just by kvpy previous year paper?

Harish Jayaraj 17th Nov, 2020

Hey!

KVPY is kind of highly competitive and tough exam, but it gives greater value in future. while preparing for such exams, you will have to thorough the basics before attempting the question paper. so, 1st prepare the best with NCERT books and some of your 1st yr UG books. after which you have to move to previous year papers.

if you are already thorough with the basic content, then previous year papers are the holiest thing you can study with. but without basics, you wont get anything out of it.

so with basics if you do prev yr papers, you will get the maximum marks. (atleast 80-90%) but without basics and only prev yr papers will help only up to 60 or 70 %
