chaithra s 6th Jul, 2019

Hii Aspirant

MIT is considered as best one of the best colleges for CSE and MECH whereas IIIT(B) is famous for its IT branch. So i would say CSE in MIT Manipal would be a good option when compared to IIIT(B) as it has better ranking, better placements and better infrastructure.

Hope the details were helpful

Got 300321 rank in JEE M. VIT 93120, SRM 20403. Manipal score 203/800. For Mechanical : 1. MIT Manipal, 2. VIT, 3. SRM chennai, 4.Shiv Nadar

Arpit Agarwal 3rd Jul, 2019

Well, brother looking at the present senario, I would recommend you to apply for VIT mechanical

I've personally meet students of VIT, MIT M and SRM and have seen quite a difference in the approach of solving problems and thinking the stuff. On that, I've seen VI students do stands better than the above two. I'm not degrading any college's image nor my colleague's, I'm just saying that at VIT you will have a better peer group and there you'll also have better oppertunities to grow your knowledge as well..

Though, all the three options are decent. And I can't say much about Shiv Nadar university, though only heard his name.

Thank You

I hope it helps!

How do we know that we have registered for counselling in Manipal???I mean what is the registration process???

Jaswanth Vemula 1st Jul, 2019

Hello Saumitra Kalhans,

The procedure includes registration and counseling in both online as well as offline mode. The institutions participating in the same include MIT of Manipal University, SMIT of Sikkim Manipal University and Manipal University of Jaipur. Applicants should report to any one of the institutions for the first round of counseling). There might be five rounds of counseling as far as I remember which will include two offline rounds i.e., intra - institute sliding round and spot round. The merit and your appearance in the merit list will decide if you will be eligible to sit for the counseling rounds or not.

Once you get the clearance from the list you will be called to complete the registration process which is to be done offline. The applicants should come to the said venue and complete the registration procedure which includes filling the registration form and submitting their choice of colleges and the field of interest. More elaborately, the required documents include:-

- e-Hall Ticket

- 10th standard marks card for proof of date of birth

- Marks card of 10+2

- Conduct and Character certificate obtained on the School/College letter head.

- Transfer certificate or School/College Leaving Certificate issued by the School/College. Migration Certificate in addition to Transfer Certificate is necessary for admission to SMIT only.

- Two recent and identical passport size photographs

- Fees

- Copy of PAN card of parent

- Aadhar card of candidate.

- Authorization letter if representative is attending on behalf of candidate.

- One set of self-attested photocopies of all the above documents

Additionally, the applicants are required to produce a set of self-attested photocopies of the same.

If the student, due to some circumstances is unable to attend the counseling then a representative can be present on his/her behalf. However, the representative should carry an authorization letter. After filling the forms at the registration counter followed by the document verification, the students will be allotted a seat based on the rank and availability of vacant seats. The selected students will then have to pay the first year fees that amounts to Rs. 2,95,000. If not selected and the student wishes to opt for the waiting list, then he/she has to pay Rs. 10,000. These DD’s should be drawn in favor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education payable at Manipal or Udupi.

The counseling for the subsequent rounds are done in the online mode. Again, depending on the rank and seats availability, the student is allocated a seat.

I got all these inputs from the website. Please refer the below link for further details (process after admission etc.).

Can I get admission in MANIPAL UNIVERSITY for my mark 342/800

Jaswanth Vemula 1st Jul, 2019

Hello Akshay,

Well, there is not particular qualifying cutoff in MET 2019, it just depends on your rank which decides which branch you can get.

This is the first time negative marking has been introduced, so cutoffs may vary a lot.

If you think that you had could've done better, I would suggest you to give another attempt of it.

Still, if you have any doubts regarding MIT, the admission process and other doubts related to student life..

Should i first register for manipal counseling online?

Jaswanth Vemula 1st Jul, 2019

Hello Rashee,

The process is fairly simple.

Firstly, you have to fill in your personal details such as name, 12th board marks (if your results have been declared already).

Then, the second tab will ask you to pay the registration fee and the first year fee. This can either be done online or through a DD.

Once your payment is confirmed (or without confirmation also) you can go ahead and select your preferred branch depending upon the seat availability. If the branch you want is not available, you can wait for the second round of counselling and so on.

Else you can select another branch just to have a secure seat. If even after the 4 rounds of online counselling you do not get a branch of your preference, then you can hope you get a seat in the internal branch sliding.

Manipal electronics n instrumentation vs srm vadapalani?

Jaswanth Vemula 1st Jul, 2019

Hello Rashee,

First i am telling about SRM university's pros and cons:

Pros:

Located in Chennai which is a metropolitan city. Three out of five campuses are located in chennai.

You can have a lot of fun whether it is movies or drinking or smoking you can do whatever you want.

In ktr there are a lot of opportunities provided to students to develop their profile like, hundreds of clubs, teams like robocon, conrods, camber, and 4ze where students can build their own bots, cars and stuff. If you are really interested in your field then you can do anything in SRM.

I dont know about other campuses but in ktr the canteen facilities are excellent.

As far as placements are concerned most students are placed in IT sector. Core companies also visit the campus but they select only one or two students. In a batch of 500–600 students some 15–20 are placed in core companies. But still that depends on your skills and we cant blame the university for that.

Lot of pretty girls from male perspective.

Cons:

The student to faculty ratio is too high. For eg for a batch of 600 students there are only 50–60 faculties. So the ratio is about 11. But this is considering B.tech alone but if you consider M.tech and Phd then the ratio will be still higher like 15–20.

Faculties are not highly skilled, though they are post graduates in their respective fields. Most of them have completed M.tech from other local colleges. There are very few from IIT’s and foreign universities.

The curriculum is old and not revised.

The evaluation system is also not very good. In exams there are 15 questions totally, out of which 5 are of 16 marks each where we have choice, there are five units in all subjects so one 16 mark question from each. Since there is choice ie any one out of two for each 16 marker, we can skip many topics. The two mark questions are basically definitions and simple problems. The questions repeat every year so even if you mug up last five year papers you can score above 90/100. But even that many students dont do.

The grades are awarded by relative grading system, ie the top scorers get A+, next few percentage of scorers get A and then A- and so on.A+ means 100, A means 95, A- means 90. So in few difficult subjects even if your total score is 85 you might get an A+. The end semester exams have 50% weigtage and remaining 50 is internals.

Since relative grading is followed I personally feel students of ktr are at a disadvantage. In vadapalani, Ramapuram and all their respective faculties set the question papers in which many questions are leaked before hand, so the students end up getting 100%. I personally know students in vadapalani campus who had internals of 50/50 in most of the subjects while I had around 35/50 in most subjects in very few subjects I had internals over 40/50. But the end semester paper is set by ktr so these students face a problem there but due to high internals they manage to get A+. And believe me or not about half of students of vadapalani are 9 pointers whereas in ktr only a fraction ie less than 10% are 9 pointers. An important thing to note here is that the toppers in SRMEEE usually choose ktr. Only after the seats in ktr are filled up the students go for other campuses. So this what I discussed above cant be just a coincidence. So if you want to get good grades i suggest you choose vdp or ramapuram over ktr. Over the last few years the university toppers for most of the branches have come from these campuses.

Very little research happens here if that is what you are looking for. Most of the faculties don’t have any publications.

If you have some influence like if you know the top management people you can get a seat without writing entrance test and I even personally know people who got full scholarship ie zero fees. This makes me feel like I am a fool who has worked to clear the entrance test and got a merit seat and I am paying 1.5 laks per year though I am not very rich.

Also if you have a lot of money you can join in management quota into any branch you want. Almost half of the students have joined in management quota.

.

Now I am telling you about the pros and cons of Manipal University:

Pros:

1. Amazing college life. You will have a life outside classroom and no, it will not include alcohol, drugs etc. if you don't want to.

2. Personality development. Manipal it's students and culture shapes you like nothing else.

3. You have a club for anything and everything. Every choice, hobby , niche is important and one can find people with common interests very easily.

4. You can build a really good profile here. Join IAESTE and do some foreign internships, or be a part of Formula Manipal and other cool stuff to build up a good resume.

5. Friends for life. I've had better friends here rather  than at my school. Since most of us stay away from our families these friends become family and share all happiness and sorrows. But you need to decide what kind of company you want to keep.

6.Goa, Agumbe, Coorg,Gokarna are amazing places  to visit which are very close and during your stay here you can go vacationing for a weekend.

7. The place is breathtakingly beautiful. The beaches nearby along with the western ghats are sometimes a sight to behold especially during mornings.

8. This one relatively a somewhat stupid point but nonetheless I'll mention it. Being a premiere institution you get quite a few perks. For example if you are appearing for the e-litmus exam they give you a rebate on your registration fee on your first attempt.

Well I can go on and on but I will leave this part saying that there is a beauty in this place which cannot be expressed in words. We do not say "Born in India brought up in Manipal" for no reason.

Cons:

1. You might have to be the victim of typical Indian  mentality "you must have given donation" or "you that is everyone's last choice" for some time. And if you have snobbish relatives or family friends you will have to learn to endure.

2. If you fall into wrong company and get into bad habits(which is very easy here) you might get astray from your path. Choose your friends wisely.

3. The faculty. The faculty here are just doing their jobs, some are good  at  it most are not. They will set difficult papers and do tough  corrections and trust me my friend, you are on your own.

4. You might have to explain some people that you are studying in Karnataka and not in Sikkim or Manipur. It is irritating. but after Nadella and Suri things are changing.

5. You will miss the place like hell when you pass out and will realize that the past four years were the best of your life......

Which is better: IIITDM Kancheepuram, or MIT Manipal, wrt CSE branch?

Jaswanth Vemula 1st Jul, 2019

Hello Jhinuk Bhattacharya,

Greetings to you,

Among the two options mentioned above, I would sincerely suggest you to for CSE in MIT, Manipal if you don't have any fees boundary issues. B.Tech in MIT, Manipal costs upto 23-24 lakhs as whole while IIITDM Kancheepuram would barely cost you even half of that amount. But CSE in MIT, Manipal is equal to that of most of the IITs, NITs and IIITs. So if you don't have any fees related issues, please do take a seat in MIT, Manipal in CSE branch.
