Hey dear, every field of engineering or job has its own importance, it depends on your choice where you want to go. If you like computers and coding stuff than go for cse engineering and if you like travelling and giving time to yourself than merchant navy is the best option. Each of them have their own benefits, like in merchant navy an average student can earn more than an average software engineer. And a software engineer lives with the family everytime and earns enough to take care of family.

To join Merchant Navy after High School (Class 12th) you have to appear in IMU CET exam. Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test (IMU CET) is an all India online common entrance tests conducted by the Indian Maritime University and is for everyone who desires to join the dream profession of Merchant Navy. A candidate can become part of an undergraduate and postgraduate program under IMU CET. All the programs and courses are offered by IMU (Indian Maritime University) and its affiliated Institution.

As a commerce student, you will only be eligible for pre-sea courses like GP Ratings course, commercial diving etc. But you must be below 25 years of age.

If you opt for the GP ratings course, you can work as a skilled seafarer who assists officers with daily tasks or as a catering and hospitality crew.

In the Merchant Navy there are broadly 3 departments-

• The Deck Department
• The Engine Department
• The Galley Department

Now if you want to join the Merchant Navy then based on your experience it is obvious that you will be going for a job in the Galley department. Now if you want to be a cook in the Galley department then you need to posses relevant degree on culinary subjects. Again if you telling that you have an experience in the hotel industry then it will be a plus point for you to join Merchant Navy especially in the Cruise Shipping Industry. No you cannot because the eligibility for Naval is candidates should have passed 12th standard with Physics and Mathematics from State Education Board or a University. So you cannot join Navy because you have taken PCB group and  Air force or Navy needs mathematics in 10+2 level. You can join Indian army as candidates should have passed 12th standard from State Education Board or a University. There is no subjects specified.
