How to join merchant navy as an captain without pcm?

Nida Shuaib 20th Jul, 2020

Hello Anish,

Hope you are doing good!

Specifically, for joining or working at ship, there are 3 classified departments: Engineering, Navigation & Ratings. For Ratings, minimum qualification requirement is 10th (Secondary Education). So, you can join in Rating department without PCM .

But to join merchant navy as captain You should have at least four GCSEs (grades A-C), or equivalent qualifications . These should include English, maths and physics (or combined science).

Hope it helps.

Thankyou

is there or if, so what is the retirement age in merchant navy?

Sk Student Expert 4th Jul, 2020

Hi

As per your question As per Seamen’s employment agency order the retirement age is 60 yrs. This rule

also provided discretion to the Director – Seamen’s employment agency , to allow employment of

seamen over 60 years aged , but not exceeding 65, provided the ship owner accepts the engagement of

the seaman and therefore the prescribed medical authority declares him medically ‘Fit’ before

engagement.

However, along side the advantages of merchant navy, there are risks also . The grass isn't all green. We

witness situations involving operational failures resulting in business loss and private injuries which

could scar us for a lifetime and leave us unfit to be stumped again.

The maximum age for retirement is 60.

But I've see some exceptions. It's all depends on your medical & fitness . There are some officer's/

Captain who are still serving and are 60+.

Hope helpful.

Dear Aspirant,

If you have a Bachelor’s Degree issued by Mumbai University that states you have been awarded this degree then it becomes a valid graduation degree certificate. This means you have you been awarded as per UGC norms. This will allow you to use it for your MBA admission purposes.

You can also visit the Directorate of Shipping website on notifications of B.Sc. Nautical Science to further understand your position.
