NCERT
Hi.
This is a vague question with no answer. What you choose to learn and how much you can retain it are totally dependent on you. What are you learning for? Entrance exam? boards improvement exam? Incomplete question, please rephrase.
Dear student,
NCERT is one of the best books for Chemistry . If you are preparing for both JEE Mains and JEE Advanced, then NCERT is the very basic book to start with. For JEE Mains, this book is 80% enough. Just read it thoroughlly. For the remaining portion, you can follow some other books of chemistry like OP Tondon Chemistry , etc. For JEE Advanced ,NCERT is not so enough. You need some other books like, Physical Chemistry by RC Mukhrjee , Organic by SKM etc.
But let me clear you, that first of all start with NCERT book. First complete this book. Only then move to other books. Without completing NCERT, don't go for any other book. And for JEE exams, solve as much previous year papers as you can.
Hope this helps.

Thankyou
Greetings!
No! They are not.
NCERT helps you to build concepts, understand the subject when you are studying it for 1st time, for better score in KVPY you must read some peripheral material for physics you have to read H.C. Verma for strengthening your concepts, solve the numericals from it, you may refer D.C. Pandey or any other book which is standerdized for IIT-JEE or Medical entrance exam preparation.
For chemistry, the case is similar to physics, reading organic in detail is more important here, inorganic and physical chemistry is more or less same in all books and is the matter of revision only, but organic chemistry needs some focused solving and practice to master, so better focus on it.
I hope this was helpful. Thank you!

Hi aspirant!!
For VITEEE or any other competitive exams NCERT are must. But only NCERT books are not enough to score good marks in these exams. You have to study NCERT for these exams to strengthen your concepts and basics, but you also need some additional books for competitive exams like DC Pandey for Physics that have high level question to learn how to apply concepts that you learn , M S chauhan for organic chemistry and SK Goyal for mathematics .NCERT books to solve those problems. Ncert is important for your basics
