Nutrition and dietetics
Hello,
Nutritionist is a person who advises on matters of food and nutrition impacts on health. Based on the person’s qualification, he/she may work as nutrition scientist, public health nutritionist, dietician nutritionist, clinical nutritionist or sports nutritionist.
Dietician mainly deals with dietetics. Regulation of diet according to the nutritional and calorific needs of the patients or clients is what a dietician takes care of. To practice as a dietician, a professional license and recognition from relevant authority/governing body is required.
Dietetics is the science of diet and its effects on human health. This field focuses on the scientific understanding of nutrition and its practical application in the field of healthcare and rehabilitation of patients.
To become a professional nutritionist in India, there is no need to obtain license. But to become a Dietician, one must possess license and become RD (Registered Dietician) from IDA
Though nutritionists and dieticians share many common tasks, an RD (Registered Dietician) is more like an allied healthcare professional.
An RD is more involved in the healthcare setup. He/she can be seen working in hospitals and clinics, monitoring patients and preparing diet plans for them. RDs work in tandem with consulting Doctors. They observe the Doctor’s diagnosis and inputs, and prepare diet plans for patients based on those observations and inputs.
Other than healthcare centres, they can also be seen working at fitness centres, sports centres and their own clinics. A nutritionist is more involved in the research and food manufacturing sectors.

Hi,
MSc Nutrition and dietics is a two years post graduation course. The eligibility to apply for this course is B.Sc degree with life science course.
Some institutions give admission only to B.Sc nutrition science and dietics, or B.Sc home science candidate.
While some allow admission to candidates from broader discipline like Medical or Non-Medical or biosciences or medical science or allied medical science or Nutrition and Dietetics or Food Technology or Veterinary Microbiology and Parasitology or Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology or Clinical Chemistry or Public Health and Allied Sciences) or equivalent.
So yes a candidate with B.Sc Biotechnology can do M.Sc nutrition and dietics. But before applying to the college do check their educational eligibility criteria.
Hope it helps.

Its better if you do a proper bachelors or a Masters course from a recognised university.
However, if you do not have the scope of doing the bachelors or the masters, you can start working with any established dietitian who can train you. You’ll be trained on how to handle the customer and their conditions or query. A lot of established dietitians in Mumbai take interns so you can try there.
Dear aspirant,
Since you are a pcm student you can definitely take up BSc. food science and quality control in any college with 50 % or above marks in you 10+2 higher secondary exam. However admission in BSc clinical nutrition requires to pass higher secondary with the subjects PCB (physics, chemistry, biology)
Regards!!
You need not necessarily opt for a ''clinical" nutrition course as both a clinical nutritionist as well a registered dietician may practice individually.
The major difference between the two is the approach of work. While dieticians focus on food patterns and diet of the patient , a nutritionist focuses on nutrition based treatment for their patients.
Hope this cleared your doubt.
Hello student ,
If we talk about clinical nutritionist and dietitian then clinical nutritionist uses a holistic approach to healing , taking into his consideration of the person's body in whole mind , body and soul and has practiced it on different patient .
Where as clinical dietitians use knowledge in the science of nutrition to advise on appropriate diet, food and menu planning to treat nutrition related disease and has practiced it clinically on the patients .
And if we talk about normal nutrionist and dietitian then normal nutrionist are those who would have only know to guide people about healthy eating habits to improve health and prevent disease , but didn't had practiced on the basis of clinically same as normal dietitian guide us about the science of nutrition and advises others about healthy eating but has not practiced it clinically .
Hope you find this helpful .
