My sons AIR is 16039 in general category in from West Bengal state. Can he get MS (general surgery / orthopedics) or DNB Ortho? If so, in which colleges? Kindly advise.

Srijika Bhattacharyya 31st Jan, 2020
Hello,
I am assuming that you are asking for state quota in West Bengal. West Bengal has only 8 orthopaedic seats and it is very difficult to get a seat. According to last year's cutoffs the last rank for ms (orthopaedics) in the unreserved category was 9751 admitted in KPC medical college. The rank for diploma in orthopaedics was 12,431 in Medical College, Kolkata. So, it seems difficult for him to get orthopaedics. However, he can try for ophthalmology, anaesthesia, pharmacology, pathology, community medicine or diploma in O. B. G. He can also try for management seats in which case he can get general medicine, orthopaedics, surgery.

Hope this helps.

If the salary of Neurosurgeon is higher or Salary of Orthopedic surgeon is higher in the USA, Luxembourg, Norway, and India?

Anamika Tiwari 6th Feb, 2020

Dear Raja,

Neurosurgeons require slightly more training than orthopaedic surgeons, and earn considerably more on average. An orthopaedic surgeon may work in private practice in an office setting as well as in a surgical hospital setting, while neurosurgeons are usually found exclusively in hospitals. The Earnings are same no matter in which country they are practicing .

Thank You!

Greetings, I have secured AIR 6887. I wanted to know about my chances in securing MS (ORTHOPEDICS) in Karnataka, regardless of govt or private, Im open to both. Can anyone please help out? It would be helpful if someone can tell above average colleges where my chances are good.

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 5th Feb, 2020

Vishnu you haven't mentioned your Category. This is important because the cut offs are different across Categories. Neverthless, this answer is being written assumed that you belong to General Category. Going by previous years cut offs and your rank, you have decent chances at MS Orthopaedics. And this is the data:

BLDE University

Kasturba Medical College

Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences

Sri Siddhartha Medical College

Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College

K.S.Hegde Medical Academy

Yenepoya

Now this is 2019 data and cut offs change every year depending on various factors such as no.of Candidates appearing for the exam, no.of Candidates qualified, difficulty of the exam, and no.of seats available for each specialisation. Please try our College predictor to check the possibility of other specialisations with you rank and Category:  https://medicine.careers360.com/neet-pg-all-india-college-predictor
