I am a final year student of Bachelor of Science. I want to pursue MSc-PhD in Industrial Engineering in Operations Research at IIT-Bombay. I had studied Mathematics for 2 years in my Bachelors and now I am preparing for JAM exam in Mathematics which will be held in 2023. Am I eligible?

Anurag Khanna 27th Feb, 2022

Hello Aspirant,

As per the eligibility criteria released by IIT Roorkee for JAM 2022 you would be considered as eligible for JAM 2023 (JAM 2023 eligibility criteria would hardly have some changes) because as per the eligbility criteria if you want to pursue M.Sc.- Ph.D. Dual Degree in Operations Research from IIT Bombay then you should  have Mathematics or Statistics for at least two years/ four semesters and you have mentioned in the question that you had studies Mathematics for 2 years during your Bachelor's programme, so you would be eligible.

You can check out detailed eligibility criteria from the link given below :-

IIT JAM Eligibility Criteria 2022 - Academic Qualification, Marks, Age (careers360.com)

But note that above eligibility criteria is for JAM 2022 because till now JAM 2022 has not been conducted and for 2023 new brochure will be released but usually the eligibility criteria remains same for every year except that of some minor changes. So make sure to check out the eligibility criteria for 2023 as well.

I hope this information helps you.

IIIT Jabalpur is better institute for research purpose but placement purpose it is average.

Tanveen Kaur 21st Feb, 2022

Hello aspirant!!

Yes it is true that IIT Jabalpur is a very good institute providing every facility from academics to faculty etc. Electronics and Communication Engineering is second most sought out branch after CSE in almost all colleges in India. Talking about research, it demands highly qualified and skilled faculties without them nobody can even think of research. IIIT Jabalpur has some fairly young and good faculties in ECE department. Though nothing is perfect in nature so is the Institute, as it is comparatively new Institute(almost 12 years). Well, placements are nice, but the harsh reality is that the students are not taught enough in UG to get into core electronics businesses, which require deeper knowledge of core electronics. If you wish to work in core electronics, you'll need a master's or doctoral degree. Otherwise, if you want to work in the IT field, you'll have the same options as CSE folks.

Hope this information proves to be helpful.

Good luck!!
