Yes there is your chance but very less of getting a seat in GFTI pondicherry with your ST rank. As per previous year cutoffs data, the rank for mechanical engineering closes around 6,000 in 6th round but you can wait for the 7th , so there will be a small chance of getting mechanical engineering this year also, or you can definitely get a seat in gfti pondicherry with other branch. You can get admission in other branch and can also opt for internal sliding ,so that you can be admitted to mechanical branch if there are vacant seats

If you have passed minimum 3 year Diploma in Engineering from a recognized board you can apply for admission to B.Tech through lateral entry. You will be admitted in to second year B.Tech. The lateral entry counselling will be conducted by the state if it is state level selection and by the institute if it is institute level selection. There are various entrance examination conducted such as TS ECET, AP ECET, Haryana LEET etc. The admission may also depend on marks scored in Diploma in Engineering depending on the institute. It is quite hard to predict the exact situation as it depends on the number of students willing to take admission in the course and the seat matrix of the college.

Only 30 percentage of the seats are reserved for the Stream 2. The predictions are quite sloppy as we don't have any official cutoff details from the university.

I am assuming that you belong to the All India Category.

Generally, the stream 2 closes at about 600 ranks and hence we can say that it is quite difficult for you to get CSE with this rank . You have a good chance to get into the core branches like Civil, Chemical, Biotechnology etc. Yet, if you are really Passion about CSE please keep other options open.
