thomas joy 13th Jan, 2020

Hi there,

For becoming a surgeon in India the following eligibility is required

  • Completing MBBS in an recognized University
  • Applying for Masters in surgery which is MS
  • Completing masters in any specialization such as Nose, nuerology, pediatric etc.
  • After that if needed a doctor can apply for more specialization.
  • Completing the mandatory duty in a hospital or medical collage
  • After that a doctor can apply in private hospitals or government hospitals for job.

A person can work as doctor in foreign countries by completing certain procedures such as USMLE exam for US and intership periods which is needed for various countries. After getting abroad, you have to apply for medical practise to get the certified residency certificate.

Hi Prashant,

If you want to become a surgeon, you need to complete your Undergraduate MBBS degree first. Then, you need to do a Postgraduate course in a surgery-related field i.e. you need to do a Master of Surgery (MS) course. After completing your MS course, you can start working as a surgeon.

1.Can we study PG abroad after studying UG in India ? 2.Can we work as a Surgeon there itself after that course?

Somrita Bhattacharya 25th Dec, 2019

Hello

Yes you can do PG abroad after finishing UG in India

If you want to study abroad, the process varies from country to country. First of all MBBS degree from India is not a valid degree in most of the countries. Given below are process to be followed in different countries :

1. In UK you need to clear PLAB that is Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board

2. You need to qualify USMLE PART 1,2,3 for studying in US

3. For Australia and New Zealand you would have to qualify entrance test to get registered with the medicall councils of the respective countries.

4. In countries like Japan, Russia you have to clear a language test first then apply for the entrance test.

5. In African countries India MBBS degree is valid, you may apply for specialisation there.

After completing of the entrance exams you are eligible for getting medical license. But to get a job at first you would have to finish an accredited residency training program. Then you would have to go for interviews and find an employer who would sponsor a work visa

Hope it helps

How Many years it take to become a surgeon ??...What is the benifit of this Profession ??

Apurva anand 16th Oct, 2019

Hello Souvik, It would take around 8-9 years for becoming a professional surgeon if you want to do the speciality course too. The Bacherlor's course in surgery also known as MBBS is of 5.5 years in india. Then if you want to go for masters in surgery then it will take another 3 years to complete this course. The benefit of this profession is that you would get to help other peoples because you will be doing surgery. Also, there is a lot of money in this field if you want to know about the financial side.

What is the salary of a Doctor and Surgeon in US Public Health Services?

Ronak Gala Student Expert 15th Oct, 2019

First of all to get into US,  you need to give the USMILE  step 1,2 & 3. Even doctors from India earn the same as much as a surgeon from US earns. I'll give you some analysis that I've come across.. Depending upon the field in which you have done your mastery, you earn accordingly. The highest pay check goes to doctors from the Orthopedics department and that is $ 443,000 dollars per annum.. As a surgeon, you can earn around $23,000 - $35,000 per annum in US PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES.

Thank you.

dear sir/madam please help me. I want become a surgeon what I want to study?

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 12th Oct, 2019

Dear Arun, for starters, you need to study Physics, Chemistry and Biology in your 10+2 and score a minimum aggregate of 50% in these 3 subjects. It is 50% if you belong to General Category, 45% for PWD and 40% for OBC,SC,ST. Now that makes you eligible for NEET. Once you appear for NEET and secure a rank, you will have to study MBBS for 5 and 1/2 years which includes mandatory 1 year internship. Now all this while we had NEET PG as an entrance examination for MD/MS courses. But in the next 3 years, it is going to change. Based on the requisites after you finish your MBBS, you have to study MS and then you will be a surgeon.
