it is compulsory to complete b.tech five years in Andhra Pradesh. I am go to written upsc exam not an engineer

daniasufian2000 15th Nov, 2020
Hello aspirant!
The passing of the said final year exam should render the candidates eligible for the UPSC civil services exam, i.e., it should be a graduation-level degree from a recognised university. It can also be a professional or technical degree.
final year students can also sit for the UPSC prelims exam. But there are conditions attached to this:

The passing of the said final year exam should render the candidates eligible for the UPSC civil services exam, i.e., it should be a graduation-level degree from a recognised university. It can also be a professional or technical degree.

All such candidates who are declared as eligible for theUPSC mainsby the board (i.e., those who clear the UPSC prelims) should produce the proof of their passing the required university examination along with their mains application. Only then will they be permitted to take the IAS mains exam.

If they fail to produce the required proof, they will not be admitted to the mains exam. This will result in the loss of a precious attempt because an attempt at the prelims is counted as one attempt.

Hope this helps you...

Good luck.
Regards...!

i was discontinued my diploma. i am not completed my 12th but now Im doing B.com degree in gitam open University. can i apply for upsc exam???

Pankhuri Kumari 19th Dec, 2020
Hii!
The basic eligibility criteria for applying into UPSC examination is that the candidate must have completed the graduation degree in any subject discipline from a recognised University. So, yes. After you complete your graduation degree, you can apply for the examination. But, to be on a safer side, you can enroll as private candidate via an open University or school and complete your class 12th examination.
Hope this helps.
Good luck!

I had my diploma instead of intermediate and had my graduation. Can I apply for upsc exam. diploma wont affect for applying ? right?

Tunir Sikdar 1st Nov, 2020

Hi Somya,

I think you will be eligible to applyfor UPSC examination.

Although only a diploma certificate would not have let you sit for the exam, but since you do have mentioned about graduating and that too (I hope) from a recognized university, I do not think you will face any problem while applying.

As per the eligibility criteria, the applicants must have a degree of any University or other  educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University.

Also I have researched to some extent to find that, the Candidates who have a (technical/professional) educational qualifications as equivalent to ( technical/professional) degree which are recognised by the Indian Government would also be eligible for admission to the CSE examination.

Hope this helps!

pdwords Student Expert 27th Oct, 2020
Hello,

The syllabus of UPSC is humongous, hence it's important to have limited resources, read one book many times instead of many books one time, revision is the key here.

For Prelims, you can refer the following books:

History ;

NCERT Class XI and XII
India's Struggle for Independence by Bipin Chandra
For Indian Culture, refer art and culture by Nitin Singhania

Geography ;

NCERT Class VI to XII
GC Leong's Physical Geography
World Atlas

Economics ;

NCERT Class XI
Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh

International Relations & Polity ;

NCERT XII Political Science with current affairs
Indian Polity by Laxmikanth

CSAT ;

Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning by RS Agarwal
M Tyra's Quicker Maths

Coming to Mains Exam, you can refer the following books for four General Studies Paper;

GS I - For History , Class XI NCERT book with India's struggle for Independence by Bipin Chandra,India after Independence by Bipan Chandra,History of Medieval India by Satish Chandra. For Geography refer World Geography and Geography of India by Majid Hussain, GC Leong's Physical and Human Geography with NCERT Class XI book.
For GS II - Polity and International Relations , refer Indian Polity by Lamikanth,India's Foreign Policy by Rajiv Sikri
For GS III - For Economics refer Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh, read ARC report along with Economic Survey and Fiscal Budget.
For GS IV - For Ethics refer a book named Lexicon by Niraj Kumar, also you can go through study material of IGNOU.

NCERTs are your foundation here, you must have a good grasp in the basics, upsc doesn't demand you to be expert, you just need to be well aware of the basics, readings newspaper on a daily basis is must and take a print out of UPSC syllabus and keep it in your study table, go through it regularly as this will help you know what to read and what to skip.

i am studying btech first year now .can i attempt upsc exam every year ?

Apoorva Mishra 26th Oct, 2020

Dear aspirant, Hope you are doing well. Asper the guidelines for sitting for the UPSC exam, there is a age limit criteria of 21years upto 31 years, so if you are falling in the age bar. For OBC age limit is 35 years. You can definitely sit for the exam after your degree is completed. You can attempt the exam every year but you must be careful about the restrictions on the attempts. As per UPSC guidelines, there are 6 attempts for general category, 9 for OBC and no limits for ST, SC.

All the best!

what time period required for preparation of upsc exam? can i prepare for that exam along with btech course?

Aditya kumar singh 26th Oct, 2020
Hi,
It takes nearly 1 year to prepare for upsc exam  and you will be benefitted more when you will join coaching as they will provide you precise notes , daily current affairs and information regarding the exam and yes you can prepare for the exam along with your btech course but you have to make a proper time table so that you can give equal amount of  time to every subject  and then after completing your degree you have more chances to clear the exam in 1 attempt .
